Friday, April 16, 2004 M&W Continued from page 1 B Fans will also be able to see the speed and ability of junior transfer wide receiver DeQawn Mobley. Mobley is one of six junior transfers suiting up for A&M this year that Franchione hopes will have an immediate impact on the team. Mobley caught two touchdown passes in a recent spring scrimmage. “DeQawn is getting better every day,” Franchione said. “It’s easy to see the steps he’s taking forward and what he’ll bring to this team.” Before last year’s Maroon and White game, Franchione asked for 40,000 fans to show up and support the team. Franchione got what he asked for and more as 41,000 fans showed up. This year, Franchione is setting the bar even higher, asking for 50,000 to show up at Kyle Field on Saturday. “I hope the fans come out and support the guys and take a look at some of the new faces and see some of the things we’ve done with the offense,” Franchione said. Tickets are free to students with a sports pass or valid student ID and are $5 for non-students. Tennis Continued else. The team with the most talent doesn't always come out ahead, which Center believes bodes well for his team. “They have three guys that are probably top-30 players in the country, and we just don't have that firepower to match up with that,” Center said. “They definitely have the edge. They’re playing well. They’ve got, on paper, a stronger team than us, so we’re going to have to use the home crowd and our emotion and really fight hard if we want to win.” The Aggies are also aware of this factor, as Cook believes that desire will detennine the outcome. “It really doesn’t matter how good the team is each year,” Cook said. “It’s more about who comes out that day and who’s willing to fight harder because it comes down to the little things in a rivalry like that. It doesn’t real ly matter who’s better.” The Aggies also look at this match as a chance to conquer their road demons. They’ve struggled against quality road opponents, and Texas represents a chance to change that trend. “What we’ve tried to do is to take each and every experience that we’ve had and to see if we could learn something from it,” said A&M head coach Tim Cass. “I would put this match up there with the (Louisiana State University) road match, the (Duke University) road match and the (Texas Christian University) road match, which we came up short on, and we now have a chance two months later to see if we’ve learned anything.” SPORTS IN BRIEF Family of girl killed by hockey puck gets settlement COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The parents of a 13-year-old girl killed by a hockey puck got $1.2 million in a settlement with the NHL and other groups, according to a copy of the agreement made public under an appeals court order. Brittanie Cecil’s family reached the settlement last year, but it was sealed until Wednesday, when the Ohio Supreme Court ruled that it was a public record and must be made public in response to a request from WBNS-TV of Columbus. Brittanie Cecil died after being struck at a March 2002 Columbus Blue Jackets game. The team, league and Nationwide Arena agreed to pay $705,000 to Jody Sergent, the girl’s mother, and $470,000 to David Cecil, the girl’s father. Attorneys for the family received an additional $538,000, the settlement said. It also included $13,000 for funeral expenses.
