By Joe Leih Tin: Battalion Starring Emilio Estevez, Cuba Gooding Jr., Stephen Dorff, Jeremy Piven and Denis Leary Directed by Stephen Hopkins Rated K Playing at Schulman VI W ith his new film "Judgment Night," director Stephen Hopkins expands the classic Hollywood chase scene into a full length feature film. But his overeagerness for end less action shoots him past his goal of building heart-in-throat suspense. Hopkins clumsily omits subtle nu ances — crucial to spine-tingling mas terpieces — and ends up delivering a brash, unrefined two hours of tedium. The plot revolves around Frank Wy att (Emilio Estevez), John Wyatt (Stephen Dorff), Mike Peterson (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and Ray Cochran (Jeremy Piven), who venture from their posh suburban Jiomes to watch a boxing match in the city. The group, however, encounters traffic and bypasses the safety of the expressway to trek into the dreary alleyways of downtown. There, they witness a murder and are relentlessly pursued by the killer (Denis Leary). Hopkins does a commendable job capturing the scenery. The sweeping shots of wind-swept streets and de cayed buildings create an eerie feeling of desolation. But unfortunately, Hopkins refuses Iggy’s pttii liigfv with 'tineriiiiii Caesar,' develops diverse content and musical style jin n< By Joe Leih Tut Battalion "American Caesar" Iggy Pop Rock Virgin Records Underground rock icon Iggy Pop re veals with his 16th album, "American Caesar," that be has developed a diverse musical content and style that few others can claim. His lyrics wander everywhere from racial integration with "Mixin' the Col ors" to the unbreakable affections of "It's Our Love." Plus, his tunes tap every musical vein from electric blues on "Wild America" to bongo rock-n-roll on "Fuckin' Alone." But thankfully. Pop has still held on to what made him great while pioneering punk with the Stooges in the late 1960s — blistering music that explores the darker, more painful side of life. In his new album. Pop again grabs his role as the king of self mutilation by delving into melancholy verse and ex posing himself with a full-blown lyrical con fession. For example, in "Jealousy" he vents his bitterness against the musicians that used his path to surpass him in wealth and fame, and on "Plastic and Concrete" he See Pop/Page 5 Fnnicello, everybody’s ,seKer 001 releases Disney dassics By Lisa Elliott 1 ' ^ . _nrrr_ Thc Battalion "Annette: A Musical Reunion with America's Girl Next Door" Annette Funicello Oldies Walt Disney Records Our generation is familiar with Annette as the lady on the Skippy Peanut Butter commer cial. He just quickly launches into an array of ceaseless bullets, blood and pursuit. So this film, rather than slowly growing to a mountainous climax, falls into a valley of boredom. Plus, scriptwriter Lewis Colick hard ly helps by leaving important plot points unexplored. The reason for the intense hatred Leary's character has for the men he is chasing is left unknown, and the over all friction found between John and Cochran is equally ambiguous. With all this lack of attention to de tail, "Judgment Night" is just easily judged — bad. 4545 OL lion call Saturd; Therm pleme food w p.m. e£ “In th 9:30 p Friday Ticket: for not Contin jas well Tod, pie sek the cen ^ cently s I Teddy keting Annett ney Sti its Di: award who he' on the "Ar . with / |is a tr Moust The I songs, nous e ! age lis make i ny-boj ond l Hawai lo's " Blanki be woi Sot their ( Ska," "Blan JT+ ‘T<U ‘TOiRJC\[G 260-2660 Tickets will be on sale Sunday 10/24, 5-7 p.m. Bill’s Classes Mon. 10/25 Tue. 10/26 Wed. 10/27 Thr. 10/28 3 p.m. CHEM 101 CHEM 101 CHEM 101 CHEM 101 CH 7 & 8 CH 9 CH 10 Test III Review 5 p.m. RHYS 201 PHYS 201 PHYS 201 PHYS 201 CH 9 A CH 9 B CH 10 & 11 CH 11 & 13 7 p.m. CHEM 101 CHEM 101 CHEM 101 CHEM 101 CH 7 & 8 CH 9 CH 10 Test III Review 9 p.m. CHEM 101 CHEM 101 CHEM 101 CHEM 101 CH 7 & 8 CH 9 CH 10 Test III Review 11 p.m. CHEM 102 CHEM 102 CHEM 102 CH 19 CH 20 CH 28 & 29 Art’s Classes Sun. 10/24 Mon. 10/25 Tue. 10/26 Wed. 10/27 3-6 p.m. 5-7 p.m. 5-7 p.m. 4-7 p.m. MATH 151 MATH 141 MATH 152/161 MATH 151 Practice Exam Practice Exam 6-9 p.m. 7 - 9 p.m. 7-9 p.m. 7 - 10 p.m. ACCT. 230 MATH 151 MATH 151 MATH 151 Practice Exam Review II Review III Practice Exam 9-11 p..m. 9-11 p.m. 9-11 p.m. 10/26 Tue.
