Bachelor - Interview Continued from page 9 close to her, but what Jane does is what Jane does, and what I do is what I do and it's different. AT EASE: Who was your first big interview? Were you ner vous about it? QUINN: Oh God, it was Da ryl Hall and John Oates. Their "Private Eyes" album had just come out and it was really big. But the interview was okay. AT EASE: Have you inter viewed any of your personal musical idols? Have you in terviewed anyone you were really in awe of? QUINN: Yoko Ono, defi nitely. I admire her so much because I'm such a Beatles fan. She's really nice, very warmhearted. I was very ner vous at first, but I felt better later. She made me feel very comfortable. I'd love to inter view Joan Armatrading, but for some reason each time she's come by the studio, twice, I've been on vacation. AT EASE: How has your per sonal life changed since you became involved with MTV? QUINN: Not at all. My per sonal life is just the same. Nothing has changed that way for me. I mean, I still have the same boyfriend, whom I've known for years, and I still have the same fam ily and the same friends. Why would that have changed? The only difference between me and my friends is that when I get up and go to work each day, I do some- thing that's different. Whether you're in college or whatever, when you're at home alone, the people who call you are your friends. That doesn't change. My per sonal life has remained intact. AT EASE: I know how frantic the pace gets at MTV. Doesn't the job take a lot away from your personal time? QUINN: I don't have a lot of time to myself on weekends. I went to Atlanta recently to introduce the Pretenders and while I was there I got a c^ll that I would have to go on to Seattle right after. But no, I still have time for my friends and family. They've been really supportive. AT EASE: Has being a V.J. helped sharpen your skills as a journalist? QUINN: Oh yes, especially the interviews. That's been such a good experience be cause it's what I really like to do. I don't think I'm great at it yet, but I'm learning a lot. I'd say the interviews are my favorite part. AT EASE: Do you ever have days when you regret taking the job? I mean, have you ever awakened in the morn ing and thought, "Oh God, I have to go to work, ugh!" QUINN: NO! I have the best job! I am so lucky. I have never regretted it. There are days when I wake up in a cold sweat thinking about what if I hadn't taken the job. That scares me so badly. AT EASE: What are your plans after MTV, or have you thought about it? QUINN: I plan to be with MTV for a long time. My hands are full right now and I don't have time to think about the future. Ask me again in two years and I might have a different an swer. If I'm still with MTV in, oh, 10 years, there may come a day when I might leave to start a family or something, but for now, this is my career. I just believe that if I ever do leave MTV, something will come up. I'm not worried about it. AT EASE: What would you say is the most exciting aspect of your job? Does anything about it still phase you, such as being in constant contact with people you admire? Or have you become blase about it? QUINN: I introduced the Po lice at Shea Stadium recently and that was pretty mind- boggling. You know, being in Shea Stadium like that. It was a lot of fun. No, I'm not blase about meeting famous peo ple, but I'm more used to it now. AT EASE: A lot of people are pretty outraged over MTV be cause so many videos are very sexual or violent. Do you hear a lot about that? For example, do people some times recognize you on the street and ask how on earth you can work for that deca dent Music Television chan nel? QUINN: No, not at all. That's never happened. I haven't heard about that many peo ple being upset by it. Of course, the really angry ones are going to be vocal, but no, I don't hear about things like that. I think the people who watch us appreciate music vi deos. AT EASE: One last question. How did you come by your Aggie sweatshirt? QUINN: Somebody from your school sent it to me! Ei ther I lost the name and ad dress, or it wasn't included, I can't remember. I guess there's no way of finding out now who really sent it, but it's so great. I love it. AT EASE: Well, thank you for taking time out to talk to me. I know how crazy your schedule is. QUINN: Hey, good luck with the article. I hope it turns out well. tuesday movies MORNING 9:00© -kirk'A ‘‘Stairway To Heaven” (1947) David Niven, Kim Hunter. An RAF pilot is saved from death by a stroke of fate.
