Bachelor Dr. G's Continued from page 5 in the evenings." The variety of music available at Dr. G's attracts a diverse crowd. Depending on the band, you may find punkers or blues fans, even the occasional pro fessor or two. "A lot of people like to come in, drink beer on the front porch and wave to their friends as they drive by," Bennett says. The development of a horse shoe golf course is one of Ben nett's latest ideas. With a little help from two architects, he is inventing the game and its rules as he goes. As soon as the course is finished, patrons can come in for a beer and a couple of rounds of horseshoe golf. Dr. G's will be featuring some national acts in the near future, including Bo Diddely and CBS recording artists, the Leroi Country Continued from page 4 students, he says, but it’s hard to get a true percentage of listen ers, because most students listen to both country and rock and roll. A lot of students like to dance to country music, but don’t listen to it during the day, he says. KORA-FM slants towards contemporary country music, Gene says; most of their music doesn’t go back past 1975, and the oldies are only played a fourth of the time. Country music has changed over the years, he says, and it’s getting harder to distinguish what the station plays, but they choose the music on a case by case basis. “The whole market has changed,” Gene says. “Sylvia and Juice Newton are hitting the charts just as much as the hard hitting artists like George Strait. It’s hard to pin down the music. “We had one song by Anne Murray that we played for only a week, because it was full of synthesizers, but doesn’t mean tnat any music with synthesizers can’t be country.” Though most of the music played isn’t chosen by the sta tion’s disc jockeys, they do have some choice, he says. They have about 50 records that will be played during the week on a ro tation basis, he says, to keep a certain record from being played too much. “We don’t want someone who listens to the station several hours during the day to hear the same song over and over,” Gene says.“We do try keep up with the new releases from the big stars, because this is what people want to hear.” Gene says they keep up with the local record shops and the national magazines to stay with the current interest. Though research shows that only a small percentage of listeners call in requests, he says they do keep up with that area too. “We always know which songs are going to be popular,” he says, “because we start get ting a lot of requests for those songs.” One program the station of- Brothers. On April 10 Dr. G's is featuring a Night in Brazil with recorded Brazilian music and Brazilian beer all night long. For those of you who have not yet experienced Dr. G's, it is something that shouldn't be missed. Just make sure you check on the band performing that night. You may get quite a shock expecting folk music and walking in on a bunched of half crazed people slam dancing. fers that is is popular with col lege students is Austin City Limits, he says. They simul-cast the show with KAMU-TV on Friday nights from 9 to 10. The area of videos is new to country stars, Gene says, but the station has been gathering country videos for a show with KAMU-TV; it will be in the same vein as MTV. The pro gram will be piloted in two weeks, he says, and hopefully they will have a regular weekly program in three weeks. “There are only about 75 country videos — good, bad or indifferent,” he says. “The first ones were just footage from concerts, but now groups like the Oak Ridge Boys are doing vidoes, and doing good ones. They will probably make one for each single they release. This a new avenue for country stars.” Wednesday movies 3:00© ★★★Vi "Eleanor And Franklin" (Part 2 of 2) (1976) Jane Alexander, Edward Herrmann. The private lives of President Franklin D.
