APRIL 26 By CAROLYN TILLER Sports Reporter he Texas A&M women’s swim team is competing in Fort Worth to day and Saturday in a championship meet sponsored by the Texas Asso ciation for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women. ifaMThe meet qualifies swimmers for the national meet to be held in March at Las Vegas, Nev. Sophomore Tracy Jonhston qual ified for nationals earlier this year in the 100-yard breaststroke. The 200- yard freestyle relay team, consisting of Janet Marden, Jenny Hsu, Shirley Hill and Johnston will also go to na tionals. The nine-member team is smaller than the average 15-to-20-member Southwest Conference teams, but Texas A&M’s season record was 7-4. “They’re tough,” Coach Mel Nash said. “Tracy Johnston and Shirley Hill are among the best in the coun try. Our next five girls are depth swimmers. They swam extremely well during the course of the season.” pete in the TAIAW championships. Win Tickets to Texas A&M University will be the site of the High School AAA Tennis Championships this weekend. The top 16 AAA teams from around the state will be competing. Hrhe tournament is being spon- sored by the Texas Tennis Coaches Association. The tournament will be comprised of the top fpur teams from each of the four regions in the state. The teams are in the process of qual ifying for the tournament this week. The teams will consist of 12 mem bers — six men and six women — each. The teams will play six singles and six doubles matches to decide the overall champion. “There will be some very fine ten nis played here,” said David Kent, Texas A&M tennis coach. Kent said Texas A&M was chosen because of its central location, good weather and fine facilities. “We are hoping to make the tournament an annual event here at A&M,” he said. There will be no admission charge to the tournament.
