The Ags, who won the Southwest Confer ence regular season, enter the tour nament with a bye into the semifinals and as nearly everyone’s choice to win the championship this weekend. The Ags’ first game will be in the tournament semifinals against Texas Tech, which beat SMU in the Thurs day night quarterfinals. Arkansas, which finished second in the league, got a bye to the other semifinal game, and will play Texas, a 20-point victor over Houston Thursday. sional baseball draft, but opted to play with the Ags. And keep up the good work A Baseball Coach Tom Chandler will be look ing for his 500th career win when the Aggies travel to Waco or a three-game series with the Baylor Bears this weekend. Chand ler entered the season, his 22nd with the Aggies, with a career won-lost record of 490-238. So far this season the Aggies, in what Chandler calls a rebuilding year, are 8-0. Chandler’s most experienced and number one pitcher, Bobby Taylor, is a sophomore. Following Taylor are two freshmen, Rick Luecken and Robert Slavens. Luecken is a right hander from Spring Woods High School in Houston. He was the 18th player chosen in last season’s profes- Track The men’s track team travels to Laredo for the Border Olympics this weekend. The Ags, thrust into the limelight after winning their first in door track championship in Fort Worth two weeks ago, are coming off an impressive win over Rice in their outdoor season opener last weekend. Aggie speedster Curtis Dickey will miss the meet to compete in an AAU meet in New York. The women’s team travels to Au stin for the UT invitational. It will be the first outdoor meet for the team, which is coming off an impressive indoor season, which climaxed last week with a victory over 11 other teams in the LSU invitational. The women will be competing against teams from UT, Texas Tech and Texas Women’s University. Softball The women’s softball team, rank ed fourth in the nation, will play its season opener tonight at 6 p.m. against first-ranked Texas Women’s University. The 8-2 Ags most recent victim was Louisiana Tech, which lost to the Ags Wednes day, 7-2. The women’s tennis team is play ing in the Florida Invitational in Tal lahassee this weekend. The tourna ment consists of 11 teams from all over the south. Gymnastics The women’s gymnastics team travels to Fort Worth this weekend for the TAIAW State Tournament.
