Page 16 THE BATTALION THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 1979 Temple psyched for Vikings United Press International The Temple Wildcats have be come accustomed to important games and Coach Bob McQueen knows he won’t have to do anything special to get his team ready this week. Friday night third-ranked Temple (9-0) hosts No. 8 Bryan (8-1) in its biggest game of the year, with the district championship and a berth in the post-season playoffs hanging in the balance. It’s the second show down this season for Temple, some thing that is getting to be a habit for Coach Bob McQueen and his players. “The magnitude of this game takes care of getting the kids up and ready to play,” McQueen said. “We’ve been in several games of this kind in last few years. They never are easy, but I think our kids are beginning to get use to the pressure which comes with big games.” McQueen said almost every year the Bryan and Killeen games are big rivalries, and almost every year the season seems to be riding on the out come of those games. “We try to maintain as near a nor mal week as we can, but sometimes it gets rather hard when the whole community is excited,” he said. “There’s a whole lot of talk about the home-field advantage, and I’m not sure it means that much when it comes down to a game like this one. But, I’m happy to being playing this one at home.” McQueen said preparations for the game were no different this week from any other week. “We know from the beginning of spring workouts that Bryan is going to be a big game when it gets here, so we work out a little every day all season for it,” he said. The Temple-Bryan showdown is only one of an unusually large num ber of district championship games on the docket during this final regu larly scheduled weekend of games. Even the top-rated teams in all clas sifications have big games this week, with only Abilene Cooper in Class AAAA assured of a playoff berth de spite the game’s outcome.
