Three zone battles in Class AAA find Beaumont Hebert playing Cros by in Crosby Friday at 7:30 p.m. for the District 9-AAA title, Brownwood and Waco Connally meet in Stephenville at 8 p.m. Friday for the District 11-AAA crown, and Kerrvil- le plays San Antonio Madison Friday at 8 p.m. at South San Antonio Sta dium. But the zone playoffs are just a part of the overall post-season berth decision to be decided this week. Eight of the remaining districts are still undecided going into the final week of play. Lubbock Estacado and Canyon play for District 1-AAA, Odessa Ector and Monahans meet for 2- AAA, Fort Worth Northside and Azell are still fighting for the 5-AAA crown, Paris and Mount Pleasant meet for the 7-AAA championship, Jacksonville plays Carthage for the 8-AAA berth, Huntsville must de feat Navasota for the 10-AAA title, Wharton and Bay City vie for 14- AAA honors and Gregory-Portland must defeat Corpus Christi West Oso for 15-AAA honors. That leaves only five districts in Class AAA already decided — San Angelo Lakeview in 3, Burkburnet in 4, McKinney in 6, Austin West- lake in 12 and Falfurias in 16. Also moving into zone playoffs will be at least six Class B zones. Valley meets Lazbuddie Thursday in Plain- view for 2-B; Sterling City plays Klondike Saturday in Colorado City for 3B; Del City faces Grandfalls Fri day in Wink for 4-B; Robert Lee meets Groman Fiday in Abilene for 6-B; defending state champion Un ion Hill plays Carlisle Friday for 10- B; and Salado meets Axtell Saturday in McGregor for 13-B. Several of the remaining 10 districts are also unde cided. The other classifications also have many encounters this week to decide both ehampionshps and playoff’ berths. In Class AAAA, Amarillo meets Pampa for the title in 3; Lubbock Monterey must win to wrap up 4; Arlington Heights and Fort Worth Eastern Hills meet for 7; Irving and Euless Trinity are in the running in 9; Dallas Roosevelt, Dallas Carter and Dallas Madison are tied atop 12; Plano must win Friday to capture 13; Lufkin faces a must win in 14; Tem ple and Bryan square off in 15; it’s a must win game for Houston Klein in 16. In the other half of Class AAAA, Houston Memorial advances only if it wins in 17; Houston Kashmere meets Houston Washington in the Astrodome for 19; Port Neches- Groves and West Orange-Starke play for 22; Texas City must win for 24; Lamar Consolidated and Brazos- wood play for 25; San Antonio Con verse Judson and San Antonio East Central meet for 29; San Antonio Jay and San Antonio Holmes play for 30; San Antonio Wheatley and San Antonio Eldison vie for 31; and San Antonio Churchill must defeat San Antonio Lee to avoid a three-way tie in 32. Almost as many showdowns re main in Classes AA and A, as officials admit the 1979 season has been one of the most balanced in recent years for all classes of Texas high school football. Three defending state champions are still in the picture heading into the finals week — two of them in zone playoffs. Brownwood downed Gainesville, 21-12, for the Class AAA title and Union Hill beat Wheeler, 14-7, in Class B. China Spring, a 42-3 winner over Lexing ton for the Class A crown last year, is in the playoffs again as the District 11 champion. Defending champions in Class AAAA — Houston Stratford — and Class AA — Sealy — have already been eliminated this year. But, the runners-up who lost out in those championship games, Collin County powers Plano in AAAA and Wylie in AA, can return to the playoff's with victories this week.
