Large organizations may be in terested in purchasing the pro grams as they are released to build up a library of the recorded lectures, Dr. Thomas pointed out. Two taped lectures are cur rently being use-tested by lead ing airport managers throughout the country. The lectures, pre sented by Dr. Arthur S. Devany and Dr. James Miller III, both of the Economics Department, were part of recent airport managers’ short course at Texas A&M. The tapes are accompanied by carefully prepared study guides, designed to draw the listener into a frame of mind that would be receptive to the tapes. A post lecture exam is given at the back of the study guide, and results inform the listener if he should listen to the tape again for spe cific concepts. “This playback ability,” Dr. Thomas said, “greatly enhances the program. The listener is able to go back and check specific points, and in this capability he has an advantage over those who heard the lecture live.” The taped lecture program is an in-house development, pro duced by Center for Urban Pro gram staff members without the aid of grants or other funds, accordin gto Dr. Thomas. “Although we are presently confining our efforts to refining our tape-study guide program, we will offer our expertise to any other department within Texas A&M that wishes to formulate their own taped lecture pro grams,” he said.
