Hobbs, who was All-American at A&M, played for the Aggie team which won the Southwest Conference championship and de- Four tracksters commit to A&M Coach Charles Thomas of A&M has announced the signing of four track prospects—two from Ghana, West Africa and two from Houston. The pair from Ghana, both of whom are members of the Ghana National track team, are T. B. Yemme and Adolph Tingan. They compete in the 880, mile, three- mile and six-mile events. The Houston schoolboys are Paul Goodman of Milby who has run a 4-19.2 in the mile and Har old Davis of Jones High who is a quartermiler and halfmiler. Coed awarded gift membership in local AAUW Judith McConnell of College Station has been awarded a gift membership in the Bryan-College Station Branch of the American Association of University Women. The gift membership honors a new graduate planning to con tinue her education and marks A&M’s corporate membership in AAUW this past year. Miss McConnell, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Stewart McConnell of 1610 Dominik Dr., graduated from TAMU May 6 with a bache lor’s degree in curriculum and instruction. She will enter gradu ate school this summer for a mas ter’s degree in educational psy chology. Currently Miss McConnell is a part-time clerk typist for the Texas Water Resources Institute on the A&M campus. She plans to teach high school biology after completing her master’s degree. Mrs. W. Kennedy Upham, local AAUW membership chairman, pointed out there is a growing emphasis on leadership by women and an increasing percentage of women at TAMU. She added the university’s cor porate membership shows A&M supports the goals and actions of AAUW and wishes to publicly recognize the organization. Members of the selection com mittee include Mrs. John C. Cal houn Jr., branch president; Dr. Meta Brown, corporate liaison representative; Mrs. Toby R. Schreiber, TAMU dean of women, and Mrs. Upham. He has played mostly on the specialty teams at Phila delphia, and last season was named the Associated Press De fensive Player of the Week for his performance on the punt re turn team. Antwine has been named to the American League All-Star team seven times in his career. Jack Mildren, Oklahoma’s star quarterback, heads a list of 21 new signees for the Coaches All- America Game scheduled June 24 in Texas Tech’s Jones Stadium. Mildren will play for his college coach Chuck Fairbanks who will be directing the West squad. Sign ing with Mildren for the West team were two of his teammates, Albert Qualls, a 6-2, 222-pound linebacker, and John Shelley, a 6-0, 195-pound defensive back. Mildren earned himself the rep utation at Oklahoma of being probably the best triple-option quarterback in the country. He rushed for 1,140 yards, more than any quarterback in the NCAA has ever gained running in a season. An exceptional runner with 4.6 speed, Mildren also can hit the pass when necessary. Last fall he hit 64 completions for 878 yards, including 10 touchdown bombs. Also joining the West team were Dave Dalby, a center from UCLA, Marvin Bateman, punter from the University of Utah; Larry Jacobson, a defensive line man from Nebraska; Ed Gali- gher, defensive lineman from UCLA; Jim LeClair, linebacker from North Dakota; Willie Bu- chanon, defensive back from San Diego State; and Ralph McGill, defensive back from Tulsa. Signing in with Coach Bear Bryant’s East eleven were three University of Michigan stars, Glenn Doughty, flanker; Mike Taylor, linebacker; and Tom Dar den, defensive back. Inking with Bryant from Mich igan State were Eric Allen, a flanker, and Ron Curl, a defensive lineman. Other East signees included John Yochum, offensive tackle from Syracuse; Tom Luken, of fensive guard from Purdue; Lew is Jolley, runningback from North Carolina; Elmer Allen, defensive lineman from Mississippi; Bo Davies, defensive back from the University of Southern Califor nia; and Ernie Jackson, defensive back from Duke.
