Commerce, San Antonio CA 3-0047 Texas A&M cited 16 faculty- staff members for distinguished service at its annual Faculty Recognition and Awards Program Thursday. The Association of Former Stu dents presented $1,000 awards and Commemorative watches to 12 members of the university’s fac ulty and staff. The Standard Oil (Indiana) Foundation made three similar $1,000 presentations. Former Students awards for teaching went to Dr. Zerle L. Carpenter, associate professor of animal science; Dr. John W. Huff, associate professor, veterinary microbiology; Prof. Price Hob- good, head of the Agricultural Engineering Department. Also Dr. Carl W. Landiss, head of the Health and Physical Edu cation Department; Dr. Herbert H. Lang, professor of history; Dr. Walter A. Varvel, professor, psychology, and Dr. Earl S. Webb, professor, agricultural education. Awards for research were pre sented to Dr. Ethan C. Holt, pro fessor of soil and crop sciences and leader of his department’s forage and turf section; Dr. Richard W. Moore, professor, veterinary microbiology, and Dr. Igor V. Sarkissian, professor of biology. Robert H. Fletcher, associate professor of mechanical engineer ing, received the association’s award for individual student re lations. The extension award was given to Bluefford G. Hancock, horti culturist in the Texas Agricul tural Extension Service. Standard Oil awards, all for teaching, went to Dr. Rayford G. Anthony, associate professor, chemical engineering; Dr. Earl Jones, professor in the Curricu lum and Instruction and Agricul tural Economics and Sociology Departments, associate dean of the College of Education and di rector of Programa de Educacion Interamericana, and Herbert G. Thompson, associate professor of marketing. Dr. A. M. Sorensen Jr., pro fessor of animal science, was formally recognized during the awards program for his previ ously announced selection for a Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation Award, which also included a $1,000 honorarium.
