Kent of San Antonio will com pete in a student paper contest Thursday at Oklahoma Univer sity. The A&M industrial engineer ing seniors had two of the top five papers in the Southwest re gion for the annual OU Engi neering Week competition. The region includes Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri and Kansas. Grant Awarded To Four of five Aggies placed in the top 10 for the finals, noted M. J. Fox Jr., assistant Profes sor in the Industrial Engineering Department. The top five will compete for awards of $50 to $200. Also high in the regional pre liminaries were Fred Schwiening III, senior industrial engineering major of Kerrville, and Larry F. Veale, junior cooperative student in chemical engineering of Pam- pa. Fox noted A&M had one stu dent paper in the best 10 of the 1967 contest. The fourth place paper was by a department grad uate student, Frank Berngen of Chillicothe. Fox will accompany Kent and Kenny to Norman for their paper presentations and participation in other engineering week activ ities. By Czech Group ModernLa nguages A $100-a-year continuing grant has been awarded to Texas A&M University's Modem Languages Department by Cesko-Bratrska Jednota, a Czech fraternal associ ation. Department head Dr. Jack A. Dabbs said announcement of the unsolicited grant came from Charles H. Vyskocil, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, association presi dent. The East course at the Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa., will be used for the 1971 U. £. Open golf championship. “In compliance with his wishes, the grant will be used to further the study of the Czech language,” Dabbs said.
