J Y Tho Battalion College Station (Brazos County), Texas PAGE 2 Wednesday, April 10, 1957 Letters to the Editor Editor, The Battalion: This letter is concerning the seating for Seniors and Juniors at home football games. We do not think that there should be reserve seats for every Senior and Junior at home games for the following reasons: 1. There are not (we don’t think) enough seats for every Senior and Junior and their dates to have separate' seats. 2. Since Aggies do not sit down at football games—what good will reserve seats do—eliminate some one from seeing the game who was unfortunate enough not to get a reserve seat ticket ? 3. A question—Will our Student Activity Cards allow us to get our reserve seat tickets without extra charge ? We would like to hear more ex planation on this controversial sub ject. Also, why not put it to a vote of the student body instead of the Student Senate? Bill Wood, ’59 David W. Sanders, ’59 Bud Gentle, ’59 Editor, The Battalion Well, they’ve done it again! Our “wonderful” Student Senate has solved the parking situation. Of course, as usual, it’s going to cost the students more money. Two dollars and fifty cents, to be exact. The price of living is going up, eh fellas! But, I’m sure, the ad ministration and faculty members will be glad to share this new ex pense since they do have the “cieam” of all parking facilities on this campus. This main trouble with “their” solution is, the traffic ticket fund is supposed to be used for this purpose. In the past 18 months there has been well over $11,000 collected in this fund. The only “student” pai'king improvement in this time, is the lot behind Guion Hall, which was built just prior to last year’s football season and it sure came in handy- for the football fans, that is. At present there is $8,838.84 in this fund. I don’t know what they are saving it for. Of course we really don’t need it, do we ? I pro bably shouldn’t have mentioned this money in the fund, because if it were important I am sure one of our “alert” student senators would have publicized it to the students. Well, we can still be thankful for one thing, Aggies. We don’t have to pay to use the toilets “yet’ 1 ’. C. A. Its primary objective has been the design and development of new aircraft engines of superior perform ance and dependability. The guiding policy has always been, simply, that technical excellence must be the para mount objective, attained through con stant effort to improve upon the best. As early as 1928 Pratt & Whitney Air craft’s Wasp engines powered Navy sea planes which brought back world records in altitude, range and speed from compe titions in Switzerland, Germany and France. The following year, Wasp- powered Army Air Corps airplanes were flying combat formations at 30,000 feet. All through the 1930s the power, range and fuel economy of the Pratt & Whit ney Aircraft Wasp and Hornet engines were developed, and the engines seasoned with experience. Wiley Post, the Lind berghs, Martin and Osa Johnson, Amelia Earhart, Admiral Byrd and Roscoe Tur ner were among the host of famous pilots who made aviation history with Wasp power. During World War II, 50 percent of the aircraft powerplants for the Amer ican air arms were engineered by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. Three of the five key fighter airplanes, a host of medium and heavy bombers, and 98 percent of all the military transports used Pratt & Whit ney Aircraft engines. The postwar development of the J-57 gained the company a position of engi neering leadership in the jet field. It powered the first jet aircraft to fly faster than sound in level flight, and is now used in six supersonic fighters, three bombers and the first two American com mercial jet transports. \ World’s foremost designer and builder of aircraft engines Broadly diversified engineering careers at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft offer truly fine opportunity for young men equipped to deal with challenging assignments.
