PAGE 4 THE BATTALION FRIDAY AFTERNOON, JULY 14, 1944 Hillel Club Holds Services Sunday Regular Sunday services of the Hillel Club will be held in the cab inet room of the YMCA Sunday, July 15. Members are asked by Hershel Lippmann, club president, to take notice that they will begin at 10:30 a.m. instead of the time of the previous services. A report on the progress of the scheduled barbecue will be made and dis cussed in a short meeting to be held after the services. All Jewish servicemen on the campus are again extended the in vitation to join in the activities of the club, Lippman said. - SUPT - (Continued Irom nage 1) indebtedness of the district amounted to $15,472.76. On August 31, 1944, the approximate indebt edness will amount to $3,000 which can be balanced against a delin quent tax roll of approximately $4,000, according to the superin tendent, W. D. Bunting. Academic progress may be shown in figures taken from budget re ports filed with the Superintendent of Education at Austin. In the school year, 1937-38, the district had a total enrollment of 685 stu dents with an expenditure of $35.94 per capita. Three years ago the enrollment totaled 790; the per capita expenditure, $58.55. In a letter to patrons of the dis trict, Mr. Bunting issued this in formation: “From the scholastic side, your school has changed from a loosely organized system where each teacher and her room formed a separate unit of the school and in many cases did a sub-standard of work, to a - school organized where authority is properly placed along with responsibility and the entire school is a unit in which standards are being checked and honest efforts are being made to attain higher standards of scholas tic work.’’ Physics and Latin will be added to the high school curriculum dur ing the coming year. Bible, with high school credit, will also be of fered for those students who want to take it. , Mr. Bunting further announced the following program of work for the high school during the 1944-45 session: “A student must complete 16 credits with an average grade of 70 to receive his diploma of graduation. He must have 16 cred its, apportioned as follows: 4 in English; 1^ in Algenra; 1 in Plane Geometry; 1 in Applied Sci ence; 1 in American History; % in Civics; and Vz in another social science. The balance of credits required for graduation may be taken from elective courses.” The elective subjects include: Spanish, Latin, Shop, Drawing, Home Eco nomics, Junior Business Training, World History, Texas History, Physics r Typing, Shorthand, Eco nomics, Solid Geometry, and Trig onometry. CONSOLIDATED INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT The following is a list of delinquent taxes due the A. & M. Consoli dated Independent School District according to the tax records found in the tax office located in the A. & M. Consolidated School building at College Station for the tax years beginning with 1939 and ending with 1943. The amount column gives the total tax only. When payment is made, 8% penalty plus 6% interest per annum plus a $1.00 cost charge must - be added to the total tax for final settlement. The members of the school board wish to make public this list with the announcement that court proceedings will be started 30 days from the date of this notice for the collection of taxes plus penalty and interest.
