The tennis race is now tied up with D Co. leading League A and G Battery leading League B. Leading in the softball leagues are A Co., B Co., D Co., and D Troop, each having won two games and lost none so far. This after noon one of these teams will be dropped from the lead when the B Co. “Bruisers” and the D Co. “Spiders” meet. The Bruisers have a smooth running team but they will have to go a long way to check the fast hurling of Otto Granzin and the long home runs of Jack Bertram. The game should prove one of great interest as it will eliminate one from the top four and will forecast the probable fi nalists. A Company got off to a fine start with an impressive 11 to 3 victory over a strong G Battery team. Tuesday afternoon found them defeating a hard slugging E Troop by a score of 11 to 5. They have been practicing often and from all indications should be in the final play-off for the cham pionship. Playing against an aggressive E Troop, the “Bruisers” of B Com pany got off to a slow start with a 5 to 1 victory over the troop. Gaining momentum, they defeated E Battery yesterday afternoon by a score of 10 to 1. The “Bruisers” league standing depends on the outcome of the game with D Com pany this afternoon. Coming from behind in the fifth inning, the “Spiders” of D Com pany opened the season with a close 8 to 7 victory over the Band team. In exactly the same manner, they edged out an 8 to 7 win over F Battery. The “Spiders' ” league standing rests on the outcome of their game with the Bruisers this afternoon. D Company and G Battery are leading the two tennis leagues, each with two victories to their credit. The Spiders’ leading players Dr. Harry G. Knowles Will Speak Saturday OnFreshman Program The Freshman Orientation Pro gram Saturday morning at 11:00 o’clock in Guion Hall, is presenting Dr. Harry G. Knowles, pastor of the First Christian Church of Houston. Dr. Knowles is an out standing speaker and is well known in Texas and the Southwest. This is the first of a series of discussions on wholesome student living in these difficult times. We hope to have a series of talks from Dr. Knowles, Dr. Paul Quillian, pastor of the First Methodist Church, Houston, Dr. Robert Suth erland, Hogg Foundation, Austin, and several other reputable speak ers on these personal orientation programs. An invitation is extended to the Campus and Bryan citizens to hear Dr. Knowles Saturday morning. There will be a few vacant seats (See DR. KNOWLES, Page 8) are Mosier, Libson, Petty an/d Langford. Bob Zivney is head man on the G Battery team. The tennis matches are beginning to bring forth likely contestants for the finals. From matches already played, it looks like the Spiders are to be in that group. Freshmen teams are improving rapidly with frequent practice games. They have already given the other teams some stiff compe tition and are to be watched hence forth. They are taking more inter est as a whole in their outfits’ In tramural record and are really do ing their best.
