Earning a midseason record of 22-6, the Lady Aggies will play visi tor in a three game series against Kansas University on March 30-31. “Although this is our first Big 12 conference game, we really do not feel any pressure,” A&M Softball Coach Bob Brock said. “In fact, if anything, we feel less pressure be cause we are no longer an indepen dent team. This is very exciting for us not only because we are one of the two ranked teams in the Big 12, but we are also the first A&M team to play in the new conference.” For the most part, players and coaches feel lucky that their first conference game is against a team they have already met up with and beat earlier in the season. In a tournament at the Universi ty of Texas-Arlington, the Lady Ag gies bedt Kansas 2-1. However, they still admit that they cannot take this team or the conference lightly. “The Big 12 is one of the strongest conferences out there,” freshman starting third-baseman Cami Tucker said. “There really is n’t any reason why we shouldn’t win the whole conference because we have what it takes, but at the same time we have to play our best.” Currently, Kansas has a 17-9 record. “Overall they are a strong team that only has 11 players,” Brock added. “They usually have very little mistakes and have an up- Dave House, The Battalion Lady Aggie catcher Beth Gerken pu at the Aggie Softball Complex. and-coming freshman pitcher who is working very well for them. Their only problem is that they don’t always put the ball in play.” When asked what the Lady Ag gies needed to improve on in order to do well in the Big 12, players and coaches commented on the fact that the team is still young and puts a lot of pressure on cer- rsues a foul ball in a recent game ATHUTIC 8HBES.
