In most apartments, you have got two or three or four roommates, and you've got bedroom outlets. If they want extra outlets, they will be paying less then they would be otherwise." One apartment resident, Andy Boyd, a junior biology major, said he is upset about tne new rate regulations. "I just don't think that many college students have more than one television that they can putin another room," he said. "If they don't, they can't benefit from the new regulations. I guess it is a pretty good deal if you do have more than one TV, but my room mate and I won't be able to take advantage of it." "The basic simplified form of it is those cus tomers that have only one outlet of standard service will see an in crease in their rates." -Randy Rogers, TCA Cable manager By Jason Brown Most students agreed that al though they are unhappy about the rise in rates they will continue to subscribe. "If I want to get the channels I want to watch like ESPN, HSE and CNN, I have no other choice but to continue subscribing whether the prices go up or not, Boyd said. Jennifer Kerber, a junior politi cal science major, said she does not mind the new rates, and her monthly bill will actually go down. "We have three cable outlets in my duplex, so our prices will ac tually go down a little," Kerber said. "The new rates do not real ly bother me. They might if I still lived in dorm though." As of Sept. 1, TCA Cable's ba sic and standard services and equipment costs will be regulated by the FCC. Rogers said the need (or additional rate increases will he assessed in the futiiTe. . j 1b oi ' , • ■ • "Once a year, trig, FCC will look at the cable rates and allow operators to adjust their rates rel ative to inflation or programming cost increases," he said. Corps Continued from Page 1 members in their local area. The members are all volunteers and are located throughout the Unit ed States. Satterwhite said the increase in the number of new cadets is mostly a result of the CLO Pro gram. "The CLO recruiters are do ing a much more efficient job," Satterwhite said. He said the CLO members encourage students to attend the Spend the Night with the Corps program. This program allows high school students to visit A&M, stay in the Corps dorms and eat in Duncan Dining Hall. "Eighty percent of the people that come to the Spend the Night program come back and join the Corps," Satterwhite said. Duke attributed the success in recruiting to the increase in the number of freshmen attending the Spend the Night program. "We had 800 high school stu dents attend Spend the Night last year, but we had 1,100 attend this year," Duke said. "Usually when they come and give us a try, we have great success in getting them to join the Corps." Satterwhite said an increase in resources also contributed to the higher numbers. "We've had an increase in the amount of financial incentives," Satterwhite said. Satterwhite said 40 scholar ships of $8,000 were given to freshmen cadets this year, and the ROTC scholarship program was increased. Mando Avila, deputy Corps commander and a senior indus trial distribution major, agreed that the involvement of cadets has attributed to the increase. "Many cadets have been do ing this their whole summer," Avila said. "In the past, the re cruiting program has failed in the summer conferences. Now, they have presentations instead of an information booth." Avila said the Corps will con tinue to grow if cadets help re cruit new members. "By the year 2000, I really think that if the Corps continues to grow it may get to 2,000 or 2,500," he said. "It's going to continue to grow and continue to be viable." Welcome Back Aggies!
