"Hip-hop is not well-represented at A&M, and 1 felt likelwasm culture shock when I came here,” Ehlig said. “I have been listening to rap since 1 was 11, and I feel like no one here does at all, except to dance to the beats.” It does not take a place with a significant hip-hop scene forte rappers to find inspiration, but Williams feels more of a hip-hop scene would spur positive change. "I feel A&M needs more of a hip-hop presence because it isi doorway to diversity," Williams said. "Diverse students want to come to a place where they know they will get diverse entertm ment. 1 know I don’t want to hear Pat Green.” PtyjmtcCflorv t£C 0-& /77 v* £ e\»\A ] like/ '? xc-picycrrCf rv,o-t.e 77v<*»v t.ifkrf So lyrv 'f /»rv o^Tvoru. / Xo ifny / Atxt'e- Xt> tonA XAt- Many critics who study the hip-hop culture use the term “the struggle” to categorize the inspiration for many rap songs. “The term, ’the struggle.' is overused and almost cliche tome Everybody struggles, and most people define it as simply growinj up in the hood and trying to get things.” Okafor said. "I rapabotit more of the struggle of black people as a w hole, which isastm tural racism based on a class system that has been perpetuate: over the years.” All three of these rappers are passionate about music, andOkafc said “inspiration can be found anywhere.” "As I grow and mature and have more, real-life experiences, I w ill forever better express myself through song," Williams said "Somebody asked me the other day why w riting papers forschoolis more difficult for me than w riting a song. I hat question issimpleto answer because it is writing w ith my mind versus my heart." 7 »Xx Xo ftX A /*/*u**y* (A «,> v> .*,<>(< Xtvx^ <% ^e> YX® //***♦*» ?**y no**/ ol cxxtX ClX** rwt rvOfU Williams is currently negotiating a record deal and will be mov ing between Atlanta and California to explore career options. To me. the ultimate expression is w hen you are able to get as many people to hear and understand what you have to say," Okafor said.
