Everything from a 25-yard freestyle to an 800-yard individ ual medley were competed in. Most of the normal racing dis tances were actually doubled, put ting the meet’s emphasis on actu al training as opposed vjgy to wins and losses. “What we were 1 trying to accomplish * was for this to be a scored workout,” Nash said. “When you have another team beside you, that you know is scoring ^ , points, all the sudden UjjgjH it draws more out of h you. So from that standpoint I was | extremely pleased | with what we got out I of the guys.” The Aggies won all of the events I convincing fashion, taking the top three spots in three differ ent races. In the 800-yard medley relay, the 400-yard backstroke, and the 3000-yard freestyle the Aggies finished first, second and third. Several different Aggies had stellar performances over the two days, including junior Patrick Didium who competed in two of the most grueling races of the entire meet. On Friday, Didium took gold in the longest race of the meet, the 3000-yard freestyle, which took him over 30 minutes to complete. Didium was also a part of the most exciting and the closely contested race of the two days. He and sophomore Scott Mueller teamed up to win the 1000-yard free relay, taking first place by less than one half of a second over SMU’s Michael Jacobsson and Chris Epp. “We just laid it all on the line,” Didium said. “I think the guy I was racing took the first leg kind of fast and seemed to be hurting the last part ... We just kept creeping up on them so I figured we’d get them in the very end. When we were behind still after the third leg I was a lit tle worried, but we were able to pull it out.” One of the most surprising showings of the day came from sophomore Scott Hansen, who fought off a slight case of mononucleosis to take gold in the 400-yard fly. “It was pretty impressive what he was able to pull out,” Nash said.
