BURLY BEAR NETWORK BurLiYBeaR.com BY JULIA RECINDUS The Battalion F or years there have been whispers of other life forms visiting the planet Earth, unidentified flying objects (UFOs) hovering in the night sky and gov ernment cover-ups. ^ v Now those whispers have risen to outspoken voices who, in the words of the “X-Files,” know that ‘The truth is out there.” The MSC Current Issues Awareness Committee will provide a forum for one of these voices when it hosts the lecture “UFOs: The Hidden Story," a dream come true for science-fiction fanatics, con spiracy theorists and members of the gen eral public whose seek to satisfy their cu riosity on the subject. Robert 1 lastings, a laboratory analyst for a semiconductor manufacturer in Al buquerque, N.M., has been researching the subject of UFOs since I%7 and will be conducting the lecture. I lastings said he became intrigued by the phenomenon af ter witnessing a number of objects on radar for several minutes at an air traffic control tower at Malmstrom Air Force Base near Great Falls, Mont. Speaking about his experience in a press release, he said, “Five UFOs were tracked on radar for several minutes, and jets were launched to attempt an intercept of them. I later learned from Air Force sources that as the jets closed in, the UFOs perfonned a vertical ascent and lefi the area at an enormous speed far beyond the capability of any conventional aircraft.” I le said in 1994 he was present for an other sighting. “I witnessed something, an object, in the the sky in Albuquerque where I live. I took it for a satellite, but it did a U-tum in tiie sky in literally two seconds. Tlial could not have been a satellite; a satellite does not do a U-tum or go that fast,” he said. He has traveled across the United States and lectured at more than 500 col leges and universities. At these presentations, he discusses previously classified documents, made available under the Freedom of Informa tion Act (FOIA) to the public, as well as sightings. He also presents a slide show that reviews government cover-ups that GABBY RUENES/Tw V' have occurred over the past 50 ^ combines his research withote j who have military backgrounds^ been involved in classified opetaW* he has interviewed military ptf I lastings said he believes oneofi* sons the government is so secretin [ the existence of UFOs is beeaiK high concentration of sightings ofl clear weapons sites.
