Dabney Staff writer The Texas A&M Volleyball Team heads into the heart of the second half of Big 12 play this weekend as the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Baylor Bears come into College Station for a pair of big matches. The unranked Red Raiders will visit G. Rollie White tonight for the first time this season after losing to the Aggies in four games in Lubbock earlier this year. The Red Raiders have posted a 19-6 record so far this season with a 6-5 confer ence record and seem poised to make a run at the NCAA tourna ment with a strong finish. “They are a very driven and mentally tough team,” Coach Laurie Corbelli said. The Bears, also unranked, visit Aggieland Saturday night. The Aggies will be looking to avoid the pitfall that hurt them last year. With just six games left in conference play and a No. 13 ranking, the Aggies lost a match to the Bears in four games, which hurt their NCAA seeding in last year’s tournament. According to Corbelli, the Aggies will have no reason to take t Bears lightly this time around. pt,j 0\ “The Bears are a very we^el coached team, as well as being ve^ct I disciplined,” Corbelli said. Baylor has posted a 14- record with a 4-7 conferenjowr] record this season. jFree Every game for the Aggies gtjnmd more important as the nint m aj ranked University of Texas hpen stretched its lead in the Big 12 o\p 0 el| second-place and 14th-rank A&M to three games. Not only a'jt the Aggies fighting for their lives conference play, but losses late ^jol the season could hurt tht^fJ chances for a high seeding in C jj NCAA tournament. “The team is really focused ( s t U (j finishing strong in the month November,” senior outside hit! Kristie Smedsrud said. “We lia^drl been focusing more on the meni. 0 4 aspect of the game as well as n ^1 letting emotion get in the way ^it| winning matches.” On the personal achieveme front for the Aggies volleyball teal )ra senior Cindy Lothspeich went ov 1,000 kills for her career, and juni^ Stacy Sykora needs only more BO ^ break the 1,000-kill barrier.
