Paul Wellman, head of the A&M psychology department, said certain drugs injected into distinct regions of the brain sup press appetite. "Identifying brain regions and drugs involved in the control of appetite will eventually lead to more successful drug therapy for obesity,” he said. Wellman and a graduate student found increases in the dose levels of common appetite drugs reduced food consumption in animals. MSC OPAS and St. Joseph’s Regional Health Center are sponsor ing a community cost drive to benefit two Bryan-College Station charities. Brazos Valley residents should bring old coats to any Kirk’s Cleaners, Hallmark Cleaners or Aggie Cleaners location. OPAS, St. Joseph’s and Brazos Valley youths will present the coats to the charities, Phoebe’s Home, a battered women’s shel ter, and Scotty’s House, a child advocacy center. ► State Prison officials aim CRs win top award at conference to raise money The Texas A&M College Republicans was named.“Chapter of the Year” during the College Republicans’ national convention. The A&M chapter is the nation’s largest and has been named Chapter of the Year four times in the past five years. Earlier this year, the chapter also received several awards at the state College Republicans convention. HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — Prison officials will ask the state ethics com mission whether they can once again allow employees to raise money from inmates and their families for training or charities, The Huntsville Item reported in a copyright story. Employee activities were halted last month by Wayne Scott, executive director of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Officials said there’s no guarantee that the money doesn’t end up in the employees’ pockets rather than going toward a particular charity or cause.
