Call Roma at 693-2226 In his newest movie Kazaam, Shaquille O’Neal proves his $120 million salary is for his tal ent in the NBA, not Hollywood. And, be fore warned, he does have several rap numbers in the film. O’Neal plays Kaza am, a 3,000-year-old genie who is called upon by the young Max Conner (Francis Capra) when Max acci dentally knocks over the boom box Kazaam was trapped in. Max is struggling to find sta bility. His mother remarries a man Max does not like. Max fi nally meets his biological father at age 12. His father is a back- alley music pirater involved with an unfriendly crowd. And the school bullies don’t give him a moment’s rest. But with the arrival of the bard in the bottle, the rapping Kazaam, Max finds a path to salvation. Kazaam grants Max three wishes (no, really?), but Max wants to savor those wish es, because Kazaam cannot leave until he uses all three. Max tries to help his father out of his deadly situation, but he finds himself caught in the same situation. Max’s own greediness stands in his his way. Plus, Kazaam also begins to become materialistic after he is discovered as a major rap tal ent (remember that this is fairy tale). The only enjoyable part this movie-going experience;: not even in the film itself, it ! the kids in the theater carryiis on about why the musical Ski does not deserve $120 millic dollars in the NBA. “He’s not even half as goodtj Hakeem,” one boy said. “Hecai even make free throws. All! ever does is dunk.” And do not expect to leave ! Shaq movie without the evitable basketball-dunkingij lusion. Since the Lakers’ov] Shaq Attack plays the omnipf tent rhyme master of the hot: (well, boom box), one would a pect the writers to include! scene where Kazaam woulc ironically, have difficulty pla; ing basketball. But, alas, the writers provie too clever a script to allow sue a predictable joke. They, in fan stun the audience with a nit ning twist of wit as the All-Pn Genie rolls a bad guy into aba and soars over the heads ofth; others to slam dunk him intoil garbage chute. Boom-shakalaka ’ Kazaam is by no means: career-ending injury fo! O’Neal’s life in the movies, bii:) it certainly is no gold medal winner either. Shaq’s career as an icon, a: age 24, is just beginning. Ther are certainly more great gam?' to come and definitely some be! ter movies. m Qe.v H SCOTT&WHITE HEALTH PLAN 1897-1997 SCOTT S WHITE Delivering tomorrow’s health care today July 1996 Dear Scott White Health Plan Member: To provide personalized, comprehensive, high quality health care at a reasonable cost is the mission of the Scott & White Health Plan. The Health Plan has made this decision only after a great deal of thought and analysis. We hope you will appreciate our desire to stay on course with our mission which is to provide you and your family with personalized, comprehensive, high quality health care at a reasonable cost. We believe our partnership with the St. Joseph Regional Health Center helps us accomnlish this If you have any further questions or comments, please call our Bryan/College Station Health Plan Office at 409-268-7947 or 1- 800-791-8777.
