Tonight the Lady Aggies will be in Provo to play the BYU Cougars at 8:30 p.m. They will then travel to Salt Lake City to face the Utah Utes at 8:00 p.m. Saturday. Brigham Young is 11-9 overall and is ranked 23rd in the nation. As a team the Cougars are hitting .192 and are averaging 15.04 kills, 16.07 digs, and 3.53 blocks per game while holding their opponents to a .135 hitting percentage, 13.21 kill average and 15.26 digs and 2.48 blocks per game. The Cougars are led by 6-1 middle blocker Amy Steele who averages a team high 1.69 blocks, .277 hit ting percentage and 3.9 kills per game. The Utah Utes are led by Amanda Van Schalkwyk who leads the Utes team with a .258 hitting efficiency and 1.27 blocks per game. The Lady Aggies improved their record to 15-4, 6-1 after defeating the University of Houston Cougars (15- 12, 15-12, 15-8) Wednesday night at G. Rollie White Coliseum.The Lady Aggies are second in the Southwest Conference behind No.8 Texas but will have a chance to tie for the lead with a win over the Longhorns on Nov. 6. Outside hitter Andrea Williams and middle blocker Page White lead the SWC in hitting efficiency with .315 and .311 marks, respectively. Middle blocker Cindy VanderWoude is ranked fourth in the SWC with a .295 hitting percentage in all matches played and leads the SWC in conference matches only with a .424 hitting percentage. However, she said any heat she feels is due to the expectations she places on herself. “I put most pressure on myself,” Etchberger said. “I set high goals and only ex pect the best of myself. I don’t feel it from anyone else.” “She’s very conscientious of how people perceive her,” Hinze said. “She tries not to come off as too standoffish and her teammates really admire her.” For all her success in run ning, Etchberger said there are several variables that can aid her cause in meets. For instance, weather can have an influence on her re sults. “I love cold weather,” Etchberger said. “A lot of people don’t like it, but I’ve had some of my best meets in cold weather.” On Monday, Etchberger and the cross country team will compete in the South west Conference Champi- ks In ps onships at Western O Country Club in Waco 1994, Etchberger pla sixth at the Champions! and will contend again in this, her final season, for an All-SWC medal. “It’s no big secret that she’s one of my favorite run ners on the team, and I wish for her to go out with all the accolades and honors that she can possibly earn,” Hinze said. “It would mean a great deal to me (winning a medal)," Etchberger said. “I’ve worked hard the past four years and it would be a nice ending to my collegiate cross country career.” u eh down against a verj j ing Cougar defense.
