1995 Student Elections Candid r Junior Yell Leader Candidates Jimbo Cross Michael Glynn Howdy! My name is Jimbo Cross, and I am a sophomore agri culture develop ment major from Belton, Texas. I am running for Fightin' Texas Aggie junior yell leader, and I have got a story for you Aggies! It was back when I was a kid. One Sun day morning I was working on the family farm, and my mom stood out the door and yelled "Jimbo." I ran up to my mom, and she said, "Jimbo, you need to get some clothes on for church and you bet ter start being a good boy if you want to go to heaven." Since then I have grown up and come to Texas A&M, and I have learned what true Aggie Spirit is all about. I re member going to my first Fightin' Texas Aggie Yell Practice, getting my first Fight in' Texas Aggie Mug (WHOOP), and I also remember some of the not so good things, like getting my first Fightin' Texas Aggie parking ticket (S-S-S). I felt true Ag gie Spirit when I saw 75,000 Aggies stand in absolute silence for the fallen band member on Kyle Field. I felt it as I watched Iceland McElroy run back a '97 yard (WHOOP) kick off for a touch down. Then, after I drove to Austin to watch those Ags beat the ever-livin' hell outta t.u. for the fourth straight time, I drove back to College Station and called my mom. When my mom answered, I said, "Mom, you know I must have been a good boy because I think I made it to the Holy Land." Remember to vote Jimbo Cross, Can didate #1 on the ballot. God Bless and GIG 'EM HOWDY AGS! My name is MICHAEL GLYNN, and I am a proud member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of '97! I am a busi ness manage ment and fire science Major from Plano, Texas. A few of my campus involvements in clude Fish Camp, T-Camp and Howdy Camp in various leadership positions including Counselor and Co-Chair. I am also a Texas A&M Shuttle Bus Dri ver and a firefighter for the Brazos County Fire Department. My message this year is quite sim- David Thornberry Gary Kipe Howdy, My name is David Thorn- berry and I am a sophomore agricultural economics ma jor from Con roe, Texas, I am a mem ber of the Fight in' Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets (Com pany B-2). But more importantly, I am a tried and true Texas Aggie, just like every one of you. I am running for junior yell leader because I want to represent you, the heart of Aggieland, everywhere the spirit of the Twelfth Man goes. Being a yell leader is not about what organization you are or have been a part of because we are all a part of the greatest organization in the world, and that's Texas A&M! When people think of a yell leader, often the first thing that comes to mind is that white uniform standing down there on the track at Kyle Field, leading the Ag gies in the yells. This is a great part of be ing a yell leader, but it goes much further into the heart of Aggies than that. My challenge to each of you is to become an even bigger part of the spirit in the future, and one of the first steps in doing this is to get out and vote on the 29th and 30th. David Thornberry — #4 on the bal lot, Gig 'Em. Howdy ya'II! My name is Gary Kipe, and I'm a sophomore agri culture develop ment major from Houston. I want to encourage you to take ad vantage of the opportunity to morrow to make a difference for our school. The difference you make with your vote will determine the next two junior yell leaders, who will be re sponsible for representing Texas A&M on the field and across the state. The most important qualities that a candidate for yell leader should have are a strong sense of character and leadership to up hold the expected standards of Texas A&M University; the ability to motivate the ever livin', ever lovin', compound, complex, fightin' Texas Aggie tar outta the Twelfth man; and promote an attitude that will encourage and bring out the best of Texas A&M. As you make your choice for junior yell leader, remember to base your decision upon the person and not the organization or group they are a part of, because in the end we are ALL trying to Beat The Hell Outta t.u. I believe that these qualities are not only the responsibility of our yell leaders, but for ALL of us as Aggies. It has been a personal goal to live up to these same standards that make me proud to be an Aggie, and it is this standard that I would like to continue to exemplify for you as junior yell leader for Texas A&M. GIG 'EM! Activities & Achievements: Class of '97 President, Buck Weirus Spirit Award, Corps of Cadets, Distinguished Student, Parents'Weekend, Fish/Howdy Camp. Stephen Chmaitelli Chris Leschber Howdy Ags! My name is STEPHEN CHMAITELLI, and I am a can didate for ju nior yell leader. There are some things you need to know about elec tions, and, more importantly, the posi tion of yell leader. Being a yell leader is not about being a cadet, a Greek or a non-reg. It is about being an Aggie. A yell leader must be a positive role model in the University and commu nity; he must exemplify the spirit which separates A&M from other schools. A yell leader must show hu mility and good sportsmanship when representing Texas A&M at home, abroad and on television. Remember Ags, this great Univer sity is about to become a part of the Big 12. Beginning this fall, we will show Colorado what being a fightin' Texas Aggie is all about. Choose your candidates wisely and please VOTE. . . it's your Aggie privilege. Howdy my name is Chris Leschber, and I am running for junior yell leader. I am an agricultural sys tems manage ment major from the thriving metropolis of Hutto, Texas, population 630. Anyway Ags, I am running for Fighting Texas Aggie junior yell leader '95-'96. I am running because I would like to serve Texas A&M by giving back to Her as much as I can because She has given me everything; everything I could ever want. As Frank Cox asked, "Have you watched the Twelfth Man stand throughout the game, always one for all each different, yet all the same." That is Texas A&M, and, Ags, that is awesome. What Mr. Cox is saying and what I feel is that the Kinship felt by all Aggies cannot be defined by mere words, be cause it is a spirit, a feeling. I would like to share my definition of an "Ag gie" with ya'II. I feel the word "Aggie" refers to a spirit kindling internally inside each and every Aggie's heart. It is combustible enough that with the slightest SPARK it explodes into an inferno of burning desire to be the very best, spirited, outstanding human be ings possible! Yell leaders have been defined as the "Keepers of the Spirit," and not only do I desire to be that, but with your help and support, my passion to give back all I can to A&M can be fulfilled by allowing me to be a "Keeper of the Spark!" Senior Yell Leader Candidates Henry Hewes Jay Castleberry David Kemp Jeffrey Hartung Howdy Ags. My name is Henry Hewes, and I'm running for re-election as a Fightin' Texas Aggie se nior yell leader. It was my pri vi lege and honor to repre sent you as a junior yell leader this year. I'll tell you Ags, nothing gets my heart pumping more than to be on the track leading the Twelfth Man in The Spirit of Aggieland! I'm originally from Gulfport, Mis sissippi, and I am taking construction science. As an out-of-state student, Texas A&M engulfed me in spirit and pride that I hold dear to my heart. A friend of mine, Scott Whitaker, used to tell me that there were two schools in this world: Sunday School and Texas A&M! I truly believe that for the most part, but if there were not any other schools, who would the Ags beat every Saturday afternoon? On a more serious note, I'm run ning for re-election because I believe that I have the wisdom and dedica tion it takes to lead the Twelfth Man. I proved it last year while serving as your junior yell leader, and I feel that I can add something to the Aggie program. So on March 29th and 30th, re member to vote for leadership and experience. Re-elect Henry Hewes for senior yell leader. I'm #1 on the ballot and #1 in Texas A&M's heart. Spread the News - Vote for Hewes! Howdy! I'm a biomedical science major from San Anto nio, Texas. I'd like to represent you in the com ing year. I feel I have the neces sary qualities to lead an institu tion as great and diverse as A&M. The first is my involvement in the Texas A&M University Singing Cadets, an organization dedicated to promoting the public relations of A&M through music. We do this by traveling throughout the state, singing for various audiences. Currently in my fifth semester in the group, I've traveled from Lubbock to Ft. Stockton to Texarkana, doing shows and stay ing in host homes in more than 40 cities and towns across the state. By staying in homes, we can share the Aggie Spirit on a more personal level with our hosts. As ambassadors for our University, we're called to be Aggies in every sense of the word. I feel that during my tenure, I've gained the necessary experience to represent you, the Twelfth Man, to our state and nation. Another qualification is my partic ipation in Fish Camp. I'm in my sec ond year of being a counselor, and I have had a blast seeing new faces grow with the Spirit inside them. I have been able to see just how excited someone can be when he or' she starts to get a grasp of what A&M really is. To see the spark that will hopeful ly burn for a lifetime is an incredible feeling, and knowing that I helped is the best feeling in the world. HOWDY AGGIES! My name is David Kemp. I'm a ju nior industrial distribution ma jor from Sonora, Texas and a proud member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets Company K-1 . Howdy, Ags My name is Jeffrey Hartung, I'm running for re-election as senior yell leader. I had a great time representing Texas A&M and the Twelfth Man last year as a junior yell leader. I was given the unique opportunity by the student body to see Texas A&M like I had never seen it before. I had the privilege of trav eling with the Aggie teams to football, basketball and to the Lady Aggie Volley ball games. There is nothing better than seeing how the Aggie family stands be hind their teams. That just shows me that the Aggie Spirit never dies. The Aggie Spirit, our great Twelfth Man and the common bond that all Aggies share will exist forever at A&M. These three things are what make this University so great, and it sets Aggies apart from any other University in the world. As yell leaders last year we all worked together with one common goal in mind — to unify and motivate the Twelfth Man at Aggie games and to spread the Aggie Spirit to fellow Ags, non-Ags and to future Aggies. Whether I was out on the track trying to motivate that Twelfth Man or yelling in G. Rollie, I was giving it my all together with four other guys for you, the student body. If I am re-elected as Senior Yell Leader, I will continue to give everything that I have for Texas A&M and you, the Twelfth Man. Remember, David Kemp #3 on the ballot. Thanks for your time and make sure that you vote! GIG 'EM. and I am run ning for senior yell leader. I am a junior major ing in industrial engineering from Deer Park, Texas. To be elected would be the greatest accomplishment of my life to date. As a yell leader, you are much more than just a leader of the Twelfth Man. You are an ambassador for Texas A&M University. People everywhere take notice of the yell leaders. To many individuals, they are the first impression of A&M, the students and the traditions. We need moral and strong leaders in these positions to give these good impressions. I feel I have experience in a wide array of ar eas around campus that have pre pared me for this leadership position. -Aggie Men's Club -Walton Warriors -MSC Hospitality -Fish Camp -Plus numerous other smaller committees throughout the years. The main reason I think this cam pus is so great is because of the stu dents' involvement. So to continue in this tradition — everyone needs to get out and vote on the election days. It does not matter who you vote for. The most important fact is that you vote. Let's make this a fair election with the winners being chosen by a major ity of the student body. I Chris Torn pie: VOTE! My goal is to increase the voter turnout and do all that I can to motivate OUR campus. Last year, approximately 8,000 stu dents voted out of the 43,000 enrolled students. To increase the amount of students voting, I have an easy solu tion. During the two days of elections, take at least one other friend with you and go to one of the four polling sites and cast your vote. I know you are saying, "MICHAEL, that is not as easy as you make it sound." But believe me when I say it does not take that much time. So I only ask that you support my self and OUR campus by taking a few minutes to VOTE and help preserve the Spirit of Aggieland! Thank you for your consideration. GOD BLESS AND GIG 'EM ARMY! Howdy Ags! My name is Chris "Rip" Torn. I'm an agriculture de velopment ma jor from Sugar Land, Texas, a member of Company F-2 in the Corps of Cadets, and I'm running for ju nior yell leader. The three most important things in my life are my faith, my family, and the Fightin' Texas Aggies. I bleed maroon! As your junior yell leader, I want to represent all Ags in promoting the spirit of the Twelfth Man. It doesn't matter whether you live on campus or off, Northside or South. It doesn't matter whether you are a Non-Reg or in the Corps, Greek or in dependent. What matters is what's in your heart. My heart and my commitment is to the spirit of the Twelfth Man. If you decide to elect me as your junior yell leader, what you see is what you get. And what you're going to get is everything I've got all of the time, because the Aggie student body, present and past, deserves nothing less. One thing I can guarantee is that I'm loud! And since I'm loud, you can bet that the Twelfth Man is going to be Rockin' and Rollin' anytime the Ags step onto the field or court. Let's make it happen, get out there and vote on the 29th and 30th. And remember when you get into that booth, skip on down to #3 and LET 'ER RIP WITH TORN. f tude Joseph Pio Piotrowski HOWDY AGGIES! My name is Joseph PIO Piotrowski. I am a business major from Austin and a member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 1997 — AY-AY- AY-AY!! I want to be one of your junior yell leaders! I'm an officer in the Christian Fraternity Beta Upsilon Chi (Brothers Under Christ), and I'm involved with Campus Crusade for Christ and Fish Camp. Aggies, I want to help lead you. The Twelfth Man, into this Big 12. I believe that Texas A&M University is not just made up of Non-Regs, the Corps of Cadets, and Greeks. It is made up of AGGIES. When we gather on Kyle Field on Saturday afternoons, in the Holler House on weeknights or on Olsen Field in the afternoons, we become one person, one individual. This is the spirit of The Fightin' Texas Aggie Twelfth Man, unique and dear to all Aggies. As your junior yell leader, I pledge that I will do my very best in leading yells all over the Big 1 2 as well as during the last fall season of the SWC. Aggie Spirit isn't just sporting events, it is all the various things in volved with this great University. Since the position of yell leader is very visible in the community, I pledge to uphold Aggie integrity and keep the Aggie spirit alive! Vote #6 for junior yell on Wednes day and Thursday! It is something God put in my heart to do. I am what you call an Ag gie since birth. I have had the op- portunity to ex perience the Ag gie Spirit, especially in Texas Aggie sport ing events. I have also had the privilege to experience the Spirit of Aggieland as a student here at Texas A&M. Fortunately, I have also had the chance to share the Aggie Spirit here at Texas A&M through various organizations as Aggie Bonfire. I have the opportunity through Traditions Council to speak to a variety of individu als and see the glow on their faces when s mm * \i<-*''ssmmtmm they hear a new tradition or they catch a glimpse of the Spirit of Aggieland for the first time. At Fish Camp, there is no feel ing like it when one of your freshman comes up to you and says, "You know Drew, that Aggie Spirit you have been talking about, I finally found it." So that is what Drew Howard for junior yell leader is all about, "Sharing the Spirit." It is a Spirit that can never be explained, and only understood through experience. My vision for Texas A&M is for everyone to experience the Aggie Spirit in their own special way, because it does not matter if you are an Aggie Non-Reg, an Aggie Greek, an Aggie Corps Cadet or an Aggie anything. Just like our names, we are Aggies before we are anything else. And that is what makes Texas A&M great. Thank you and please remember, Drew Howard, last on the ballot for ju nior yell leader, hoping to be your first choice. My name is Michael Thorn berry and I'm a junior agriculture development major from Con roe, and I'm run ning for senior yell leader. I'm a proud member of Company B-2 in the Fightin' Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets. A yell leader should be someone who is ready and willing to do whatever is necessary to represent this great University to the best of their ability. It would be an honor for me to represent each and every one of my fellow Aggies next year in one of this University's finest traditions. This past year, I had the privilege of representing Texas A&M and Aggie Bon fire as one of the eight junior redpots in charge of building and coordinating Bon fire '94. As you all know. Bonfire '94 fell only seven days before we were sched uled to BEAT THE HELL OUTTA t.u. No one in the country believed that a bunch of college kids could rebuild the world's largest bonfire in only seven days. Well I'm here to tell you 40,000 hard-chargin' Aggies proved those skeptics wrong. No other University in the world has the unique traditions that we share here in Aggieland. No other University has the same commitment to carry out these great traditions. I would love to take that same enthusiasm and pride that rebuilt Bonfire '94 and lead this university as a senior yell leader. I know we are in store for a great year. With the outstanding support of the Twelfth Man, there are no limits to what we can accomplish. Remember, get out and vote on March 29 & 30. I'm #5 on the ballot. Thanks and GIG 'EM. I've supported the Ags through three football, basketball, volleyball and baseball seasons, and I have loved every minute of it. I've helped lead unofficial yell practices at some of the most RED ASS parties / bars / cities in this na tion. I'm a Fightin' Texas Aggie Greek, Non-Reg, Kiest Hall, now Off-campus livin'Aggie.
