Chris McNeely, chair of the Student Senate’s Rules and Reg ulations Committee, said the fi nal revisions will be done when they can be done right. “We’ve done the thought processes, we just have to get them down on paper,” he said. Tobin Boenig, speaker of the senate, said there were a lot of loop holes in the old regulations and they weren’t air-tight. “The election commissioner had to make decisions in the past but he really couldn’t go on the rules,” he said. “One example is that you aren’t supposed to carry campaign material to the ballot, but what exactly is campaign material?” Boenig said he hopes people re alize that the Student Senate wants to make the election regula tions as effective as possible and that’s why it’s taking so long. “I want to emphasize that we want to make these as air-tight as possible.” ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — The former president of United Way of America and two former executives have been indicted on charges they spent the chari ty’s money on vacations, apart ments and personal air travel. William Aramony, 67, presi dent of United Way from 1970 to 1992, was named in a 71- count federal grand jury indict ment announced Tuesday by the U.S. attorney’s office. Also indicted were Stephen J. Paulachak, 49, a United Way executive from 1971 to 1988 and president of a spinoff company that was indicted; and Thomas J. Merlo, 63, chief financial officer of the charity from 1990 to 1992. The alleged diversion of funds caused a shakeup at the national charity organization when it was first reported by the news media two years ago. Contributions to local United Way organizations fell off sharply but have since stabi lized. United Way of America is the national service and training center for local United Way or ganizations and is financed by dues from the local groups. of Fame will ho: ■ football coat' Hlard, basebai ott Livingstone William D. id track and Rod Rich Blackmon.
