With Texas A&M students to the left of him and Aggie alum ni to the right, one person sat bravely in the middle of them, donning green and gold and cheering on his team. Actually, it wasn't so much cheer ing as it was taunting. "C'mon Bears! You can kick the crap out of these losers!" he ex claimed to the displeasure of those around him. During the first half, he had a grand old time. His team had been able to not only perfect their running game but Baylor's passing game was in sync as well. His greatest moment came in the second quarter when Baylor quarter back JJ. Joe lofted a 38-yard pass to Ben Bronson to tie the game up at seven. A&M students could hear the cheers coming from the Baylor faith ful sitting on the other side of the sta dium. But it was much clearer com ing from the row next to them. "You guys stink," he said. He flailed his arms madly and made sure that everyone in that section was aware of his existence. Then, when the Aggies next yell began, the Baylor fan just laughed mockingly. "Beat the hell out of the See Whitley/Page 8 what's oUt what's in A&M's passing sinks Baylor, 34-17 By Matthew J. Rush The Battalion WACO — Behind the passing of sophomore quarterback Corey Pullig, the 13th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies rolled over the Baylor Bears 34-17 at Floyd Casey Stadium on Saturday. A&M moved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in Southwest Conference play while the Bears dropped to 4-3 and 2-2. The Aggies won their 18th consecutive conference game, just three shy of the record set by Texas from 1968-1971. With A&M's running game stuck in the mud, Pullig showed that the Aggies could pass if needed as he completed 21-of-28 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns. Pullig said that he was excited about his chance to throw the ball as much as he did. "They gave us the opportunity to pass more and we just executed it a little better than we have in the past," Pullig said. "If they give us the op portunity to throw like that, we're going to have to take it." A&M junior running back Greg Hill said that he was excited about Pul- lig's play and the way that the offense played as a whole against Baylor. "Corey Pullig, he had a great game," Hill said. "The receivers made spectacular catches today and you have to give the offensive line a lot of credit with the time they gave Corey today." Hill, who led the Aggies with 16 carries for 71 yards and scored two touchdowns, also said that the game was a demanding contest. "It was hard work," Hill said. "They made us work hard and they came to play a physical game. If they gave me one yard, I was lucky to try and get two or three out of it. "They weren't giving away big yardage." A&M took control of the game and possibly the Southwest Conference race in the second half. The Aggies scored a touchdown and a field goal in the first seven minutes of the third quarter to break a 10-10 tie. But Baylor closed the gap to 20-17 when Baylor senior running back John Henry scored on a one-yard dive. Pullig, though, responded on A&M's next drive. On the last play of the third quarter, he evaded tacklers and threw a 30- Kyle Burnett/The Battalion Texas A&M sophomore quarterback Corey Pullig straight-arms a Baylor defender in the Aggies' 34-17 victory over the Bears on Saturday. Pullig completed 21 passes in 28 attempts and threw See Aggies/Page 8 for 230 yards and two touchdowns as A&M took control of the Southwest Conference race. A&M soccer team kicks opponents in sweeping fashion over weekend By Jose de Jesus Ortiz The Battalion The Texas A&M Lady Aggie soccer team flexed its young muscles against Hardin Simmons on Sunday at Old Tiger Field. A&M won the match by a 6-1 score and improved its record to 10-3. All the Aggie goals were scored by freshman. A&M head coach G. Guerrieri said he was pleased with the youthful victory. "Even though we have a lot of of up perclassmen, we depend on the new tal ent that we recruited," head coach Ger ald Guerrieri said. Hardin Simmons assistant coach Guy Shaul said there was a simple key for A&M's victory. "We played well, but there is a huge difference because they can recruit," Shaul said. Freshman forward Kristeen Koop scored the first goal for the Lady Aggies . Koop's shot seemed to be stopped by Cowgirls goalie Becki Brandenberg but crept in for a goal between her legs. Freshman forward Yvette Okler then tapped in another Koop shot to give the Aggies a 2-0 lead. Guerrieri, who coached at Hardin Simmons until they stopped granting scholarships in 1990, said new talent was not the only key in winning. "One of the keys is that Rennie Rebe is there as an organizational force and Brittan Hlista is their for our midfield," Guerrieri said. Rebe, who is the captain, was the leader defensively, as the Aggies al lowed only one shot on goal. "I just wanted to play consistently," Rebe said. "I want to play steady and supply experience for the freshman." Freshman Jamie Csizmadia scored in her sixth consecutive game after she drilled a shot past the entire Hardin Sim mons on an indirect free-kick. She added another goal later Csizmadia had two goals on Friday as the Lady Aggies beat St. Mary's 5-2: 1-800-C0LLECT America’s Inexpensive Way To Call Someone Collect! 1 Dial it instead of “0” and save up to 44%.
