lay, April 7 ‘ 'Tuesday, April 7, 1992 The Battalion Page 5 In Advance oi Dog plays tonight By Rob Newberry The Battalion dy Count, la g but an ews ; blood andt Austin's masters of eclectic ■rock Poi Dog Pondering will [perform tonight at the Stafford [Opera House in downtown Bryan. The show starts at 8 |p.m., and tickets are $8. With the recent release of I their third album, "Volo Volo," I Poi proves that they still know ■ how to blend the plethora of in- Istruments they use. The band ■ has been playing many of these I songs live for over a year, and ■ many fans wondered about I their "more electric" sound. ■ The result on the album, how- lever, follows the previous two I well, and is altogether exciting. I Tunes like "I've Got My Body," "Lackluste/' and "Jack Ass Ginger" show the band at their best. Songs like "The Hardest Thing" highlight frontman Frank Orrall's intelligent views on relationships. Hopefully, Poi will throw in some of their older material as well. "U-Li-La-Lu," "Thanks giving" and "Fruitless" from their second album, "Wishing Like a Mountain and Thinking Like the Sea," make a show worthwhile by themselves. Throw in the naturalistic view in "Circle Round the Sun" and the jolly sounds of "Living with the Dreaming Body" off their self-titles debut, and you should have one helluva a‘ show. For those of you who still Austin’s Poi Dog Pondering features their plethora of instruments tonight at the Stafford Opera House. aren't sure about the show to- Their set there should convince morrow night, stop by Ma- you to make it to the show, but rooned Records this afternoon make sure you take some cash for the in-store performance. - you'll have to get the new disc.
