Desert Shield packages detoured through Dallas p.m. in 104 Na- roup picture nation. and DALLAS (AP) — Priority pack ages for Operation Desert Shield mailed in the Southwest will now go through Dallas, a postal official said Monday. Spokeswoman Barbara Buck said postal operations at Washington Dulles, Chicago and New York were overwhelmed. As of Monday, Dallas became a concentration point for APO prior ity parcels. Those are anything 12 ounces and over, generally pack ages, for regular two-day delivery, said Buck. Within a few weeks the Dallas sta tion should handle about 70,000 pieces per day. Dallas also will handle mail for about 140 cities in Eastern Europe, said Buck. Developer liquidates own estate TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Smack in the middle of the upscale neigh borhood the former Dallas devel oper built in the mid-1980s was a sign of the times: “Kenneth Good Estate Liquidation Sale Today.” All day Sunday, the financially troubled developer opened his home for deals on household items ranging from zebra-skin rugs to plastic tissue dispensers. Good is known for his business links to Neil Bush, the president’s son, who was a director at the Sil verado Savings and Loan Associa tion during the mid-1980s. Good bought about $ 14 million in Silverado stock and became one of the thrift’s biggest borrow ers. Silverado collapsed in 1988, costing taxpayers an estimated $ 1 billion. The family advertised the sale with signs posted at the main en trances to the 9,000-acre Tampa Palms community north of the University of South Florida. “We’re just getting rid of some stuff,” a young man who identi fied himself as Good’s son said. Good greeted bargain-hunters to the home he once tried to sell for $650,000. He said he was moving but told a reporter he did not want to talk to the press. Some of Sunday’s shoppers ap parently found a few steals. One woman left the house cradling a jumbo box of pots and pans. An other man hauled a silver object d’art to his silver Mercedes. Some left the 5,000-square-foot house empty-handed. vants se 7 label ATTENTION CLASS OF ‘91!
