And they do — in 18 Sunbelt cities where Evetts’ company. Headlines USA, has been putting advertise ments where people can’t ignore them: in restroom stalls, above uri nals and over hand-dryers. “With radio or TV 7 , you can walk away or get involved in something else,” Evetts said, “With Headline, you’re stuck. You’re going to stare at a blank wall, or read our ads. “We are located in a place where there is nothing else you would rather be doing.” The ads win raves at “In Ca hoots,” an upscale country-western nightclub, waitress Cheryl Hanavan said. “You hear things like, ‘Wow! Far Out! You’ve got something to read in there!’ “It’s a good idea," said nightclub patron Clav Hubbard, 25, of Hous ton. “You can’t help but look at them; they’re right there in your face.” “It gives you something to do while you’re sitting there,” said Bar bara Collins, a 35-year-old travel agent. She was able to recall four of the 10 ads in a matter of seconds. Collins said she isn’t sure her com pany would be enthusiastic about restroom advertisements, but she thinks it’s a good bargain for some businesses. “T hey have ads for the Dance Club here — this is a good place for that,” she said. Evetts said one of the assets of his business is the ability to focus a firm’s advertising dollars on the in come, race or sex of its intended cus tomer. “If you want women only, we can give you that,” Evetts said. “If you want to find Hispanic customers, we can provide locations that deliver only Hispanic clientele. If you want blacks, we can give you locations that deliver blacks." The success of his business de pends on the locations. He tends to place ads in upscale nightclubs, res taurants and event complexes like The Summit, the home of the Hous ton Rockets. At “In Cahoots,” one of 45 loca tions where the ads can be seen in Houston, most restroom-goers on a recent night were able to remember between two and four ads, some of them in great detail. “There was one for flowers 24 hours a dav — Dial 999-ROSE,” said Doug Wilson, 26. Evetts, 32, got a S50,0()0 personal loan and started Stalltalk Inc. Since renamed, it now has both corporate and franchise operations. He ex pects it to make SI.2 million in sales this year. ahirft Annual (DUtnlierfcut 'BS. S’dmttol iraiui liar $c ffirstanrant iSm!
