Sample’s fourth-inning shot, which gave the Braves a 4-0 lead, was ruled fair by third-base umpire John AlcSherry, triggering a heated dispute with Houston Manager Hal Lanier. “I hit it hard enough to be a home run. I just stood there and waited to see if it was fair,” said Sample, who Collected his first three National League hits. “When we play another group of guys it doesn’t hurt at all,” Tanner said. “It just gives our regulars a chance to sit and watch and rest.” Phillies 4, Mets 2 PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Darren Daulton cracked a two-run homer, and Gary Redus hit a solo shot to back Shane Rawley’s 10-hit pitching as the Philadel phia Phillies defeated the New York Mets 4-2 Sunday. Willie Wilson and George Brett hit consecutive home runs in the third inning and Steve Balboni hom ered in the fourth, all of them off Dave Stieb and all with the bases empty. Jim Rice added three runs batted in, two on a home run, and Bill Buckner and Dwight Evans each had two RBI. Boston starter Tim Lollar allowed two hits and one run in six innings. A’s 11, Angels 7 OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Rookie Jose Canseco drove in five runs with a single and his second home run as the A’s beat the California Angels 11-7 Sunday.
