Lady Aggies looking ‘four-ward’ to Frogs By CHAREAN WILLIAMS Assistant Sports Editor Four will be a significant number for the Texas A&M women’s basket ball team tonight. The Lady Aggies have a three- game win streak, and a victory in to night’s TCU game could make it four in a row. They also will be try ing to retain a solid hold on fourth place in the Southwest Conference. Coach Lynn Hickey’s Lady Ags (6- 4 in the SWC, 13-9 overall) travel to Fort Worth tonight for a 7:30 meet ing with the Lady Horned Frogs (1- 10, 5-17). A&M’s 78-68 win over SMU this past Saturday night, combined with Houston’s 83-75 loss to Texas Tech Wednesday night, moved the Lady Ags a game ahead of the Lady Cou gars. With only six conference games remaining before the SWC postsea son tournament, A&M’s remaining games against the last-place teams, TCU and Rice (Feb. 25), are must- wins for the Lady Aggies. A&M still must face the nation’s No. 1 team, Texas, Saturday night in Austin. The Lady Ags also have Ar kansas (9-2, 16-5), the second-place team in the conference, and the third-place team, Texas Tech (8-2, 15-6) remaining on their schedule. A&M also has to play Houston again. The Lady Coogs (5-5, 14-7) are on the Aggies’ heels and Have al ready downed A&M once this sea son. So tonight begins the stretch run, and for all practical purposes it will be A&M’s last “easy” game before the SWC tournament. And while a team with a 1-10 SWC record doesn’t sound like much of a challenge, the Ags can’t afford to look past the Frogs. SWC’s Newcomer of the Year, is av eraging 11.1 points and 6.9 re bounds per game. The Lady Aggies will counter with the SWC’s fourth leading scorer, guard Lisa Langston, who is averag ing 15.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. TCU showed what it’s capable of when it came within three points of upsetting Baylor Saturday night. Coach Frances Garmon’s Frogs are led by sophomore Carol Glover, whose 13.9 scoring average ranks her sixth in the SWC. Freshman Kathleen Olson, a candidate for the “I have a dream that my four little chil dren will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their cha racter.” Martin Luther King Nobel Laureate for Peace Tues, Feb 18, 7:00 p.m. Rudder Theatre MSC GF GREAT ISSU1 Black Awareness
