Dance your socks off!! Omega Phi Alpha, the Muscu lar Dystrophy Association and Alpha Phi Omega are sponsor ing Super Dance '85 on Feb. 22. The fundraising goal is set at $20,000 and A&>M hopes to do this with money from the Kiss Off that was held last night and the dance scheduled for next week. A6=M would like to send a representative to Las Ve gas for the Muscular Dystrophy Telethon to present the check. There are four themes incor porated into the dance this year. First will be a 50’s Sock Hop with poodle skirts and leather jackets. Bop to the tunes of the Pink Ladies and T- Birds. The second theme will be a Pajama Party! No snoozin' so keep movin’ all night. Third will be a Beach Blan ket Bingo Party. Beach and tropical attire are a must for this one. And finally the dance will end with a College Reun ion theme. Wear all the college gear you have and show school spirit for the Aggies. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes at the dance. The prizes are: Baab speakers, Schwinn bicycles and six- month memberships for Gyms of Texas. Dancers need to register Monday through Friday in the Commons from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. In the Me morial Student Center registra tion is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dancers will receive sponsor forms and every effort to get pledges and donations is to be made before the dance on Fri day. “If they aren’t able to dance they should support those who do by giving donations to peo ple who are collecting or at the registration tables (in the Com mons and MSC),” Nancy Maupi, co-chairman of the dance says. On Friday, Feb. 22, the night of the dance, participants should be at DeWare field house by 7 p.m. to check in. The money will be collected then and everyone will be split into teams of four couples. If the dancers want to arrive with their teams in tact — that’s great too. The team motivation is for encouragement as the 24 hours go on. Prizes will be awarded to those that endure the entire time. Three meals will be provided throughout the dance as well as a break each hour with snacks and a two hour sleeping break. Participants will need to bring sleep wear, changes of clothes (in keeping with the themes — for fun) and any toi letries they might need.\ McCuttar strong in ‘Warped Three? By SHAWN BEHLEN Co-Editor I’ve read “Warped” in the Batt now for nearly four years. And I usually have had one of two reactions. Either I laugh loud enough that people turn and stare or I get a dumb look on my face and simply turn the page. I’ve never been middle- of-the-road with just a smile. The reason for that, I had decided, is that on a day-to-day basis, I couldn’t see a continua tion or consistency, just highs and lows. That has changed with “Warped Three, Mr. Scott,” the third compilation of strips bv Scott McCullar. The first ones get your sense of humor in sync with McCul- lar’s, and the rest flow along with more of a recognizable plan than I had ever noticed. I think it’s because when read together, McCullar’s strips have a gentle humor that I had missed up to now. “Warped Three” gives us the exploits of Merritt Jennings, the slv observer; Paul Storm, the si lent loner; and Caroline Hedges, the passionate roman tic, along with their friends and acquaintances. It also has several spoofs of popular mov ies (does McCullar like science fiction, or what?), a column and a hilarious map of the Texas A&=M campus that should make any Aggie laugh. McCullar’s humor is best when he keeps it simple. When he keeps a strip down to one idea or concept, he very seldom fails. This is most obvious when he forsakes the four- panel format and concentrates on one drawing or when he uses all four panels but sticks to one or two captions. When he pushes for some thing more involved (as usually evidenced by the words taking up more space than the draw ings), however, his humor tends to get lost and the point along with it. The most successful strips in “Warped Three” are those that deal with our beloved Texas A6=M. I don’t know if it’s be cause McCullar, a grad stu dent, has been here quite a while now or if he’s blessed with instant insight, but he’s got this place pegged. The strips on the Regents (espe cially the A&=M Administrators “Cross-campus Run” series) are wonderful and a nice ex ample of satire. Other notables deal with computers, parking tickets and grades — three top ics we all love to hate. The least successful strips have one thing in common — thev are about Merritt’s and Paul’s opinions of love. I don’t think McCullar is quite is dar ing with this subject as he is with others and it shows. All in all, “Warped Three, Mr, Scott” is quite enjoyable. Available in local bookstores, it’s worth the$4.50A
