Rollins plays one of the first black Army officers to be sent down to the deep South to investigate the killing of a black soldier. Nominated for an Academy Award for best picture. R. A Passage to India: It was a terri ble, horrible, no-good, very bad day for Dr. Aziz. From the moment he in stigates a picnic at the caves, to the end' of his being tried for a rape charge, he has a verv difficult time. This one is about the culture clashes in pre-Gandhi India. Nominated for best picture, best actor and best ac tress. Good movie. PG-13. Amadeus: It’s back! One of my fa vorite movies from last semester. I’m excited, despite what Shawn said about it. (I personally refuse to think ofWoltie Mozart as a geek.) The score is fantastic and the acting superb. A definite “must see” for everybody. Tom Hulce (“Animal House”) stars in the title role.PG. Post Oak 764-0616 The Killing Field: Columnist Syd ney Schanberg (Sam Waterston) went to Cambodia in 1977 as a New York Time’s correspondent. His assistant, Dith Pran (Haing S. Ngor) was Cam bodian born. When all Cambodians were ordered out of the country, Schanberg watches Pran enter what was to be known as the “killing fields,” the interior Cambodia. Rumor has it that this is a very intense movie. Based on a true story R. The Karate Kid: Think of this as a “Rocky as a teenager” story and you can pretty well guess the plot. Ralph Macchio from “The Outsiders” stars as the hero who ieanis karate to beat up the big, blond guys and to impress the girl. More than a little predictable throughout with a big final con- 1 frontation. PG. Protocol: Goldie Hawn stars as a spirited Washington D.C. cocktail waitress who accidently saves the life of a foreign dignitary. So, the State Department offers her the job of en tertaining visiting diplomats. Buck Hemy had a hand in the screenplay and it shows. Some call this the se- qual to “Private Benjamin.” PG. Schulman Six 775-2468 Witness: A cop must protect a little Amish bov who is the only witness to a murder. Maybe he falls in love with the kid’s mother. Maybe not. Harrison Ford (“Indiana Jones”) stars in a role that appears to be a big change for him. R. Beverly Hills Cop: Eddie Murphy, in a role written tor (can you believe this?) Sylvester Stallone, stars as a De troit cop who follows the trail of a friend’s killer to Beverly Hills. This is a comedv-thriller with tons of action and Murphy is as great as always. Paramount executives are already dis cussing a sequel. Classic Eddie Mur phy- R. Micki and Maude: Dudley Moore plavs a TV reporter who desperately wants to be a father. So when his mis tress, Maude (Amy Irving), becomes pregnant, he marries her. But he is al ready’ married to Micki (Ann Reink ing), a successful lawyer. Surprise: Micki becomes pregnant too. This comedy was directed by Blake Ed wards and is delightful. One of the funniest movies to come out in a long time. PG-13. Mischief: Something about the title doesn’t make this movie too overly ap pealing to me. Another teeny-bopper- wants-to-make-it-with-the-buxom-gi- rl-who-wears short-and-tight-dresses kind of movie, (jo see it for me. R. iJtarman: Ali life forms in the uni verse have been receiving an invita tion to Earth since 1977 thanks to Voyager II. In this film, directed by John Carpenter C‘Halloween”), some thing out there, played by Jeff Bridges, accepts the invitation, comes to Earth and clones himself human, from a lock of hair. Karen Allen has the mis fortune (or is she actuallv fortunate?) to be chosen to drive Bridges to a ren- devous point with his homeplanei shuttle. Reallv a good movie, folks. PG. Heaven Help Us: Do young boys in a Catholic school ever discover them selves? Do they discover anything? Someone seems to think so because they made, a movie about just that. Supposedly, there is at least one char acter that everyone can relate to. Per sonally, I, myself, find it hard to relate to young Catholic boys on their owm level. R. Manor East 823-8300 Falcon and the Snowman: Two upperclass California kids sell satellite secrets to the Soviets and make big bucks. Timothy Hutton and Sean Penn star as the two kids. They are the best things going for the movie. See complete review’ on page three. R. NIrs. Soffel: Mel Gibson and Diane Keaton star in a steamy love story that is based on fact. Gibson and his brother (Mathew Modine) are in jail. Keaton is the warden s wife, but falls in lov’e with Gibson and helps to break the brothers out. Critics are already calling this Keaton’s best performance ev’er. Directed by Julian Amstrong, the director of “My Brilliant Career.”PG-13. Avenging Angel: She’s back and madder than ever. Not only that, but she’s even found a shorter skirt. Now Angel is after the thugs who killed the cop who got her off the streets the first time. All this and college, too. Al most too hard for this college person to believe, I’ll tell you. R.
