There, he relaxes in a stall about three times as large as that of most horses and dineson imported alfalfa. “Dollor is a movie legend just as much as John Wayne was," Mrs. Keffeler, 31, who manages Double I)D Western Wear in the Dallas sub urb of Duncanville, told the Dallas Morning News. “A cowboy is not a cowboy without his horse. T hey’re both my heroes.” Dollor was owned by Dick Webb Movie Productions, but Wayne was so fond of him, he drew up an exclu sive contract that forbade anyone else to ride him. Dollor appeared in the movies Big Jake, The Cowboys, Rooster Cog- burn, Chisholm, Train Robbers and TheShootist — Wayne’s last film. Dollor’s heyday came in T he Shootist when Wayne interceded on his steed’s behalf and changed the script so he could mention Dollor by name several times. Keffeler describes Dollor as bul lheaded and independent but lov able. "1 asked Dick Webb why John Wayne particularly liked him, and he (Webb) made the remark that their temperaments were a lot alike,” she said. Although Dollor gets along with other horses, his past sets him apart, she said. “Hejust more or less runs herd on them — they don’t get by with any thing,” she said. “He’s a different type horse. For one thing, he’s older than the rest of my horses. And thev haven’t trav eled as much as he has. He’s got a mind of his own.” It takes a special kind of horse to work in movies, Keffeler said. “Dollor was ridden hard, and John Wayne shotguns off him while riding him,” she said. “Dollor still gets excited when he hears John Wayne’s voice, and people every where just want to touch him.” Keffeler, who is Dollor’s third owner since Wayne’s death, got in terested in the horse when she tied him during a western wear spot snow at the Dallas Apparel Mart last year. “I thought Dollor should live in Texas in me open air like an animal and not be traipsed across the world like a freak in a side show,” she said. Keffeler got financial backing from two investors in North Dallas who are avid Wayne fans, and soon the horse was prancing in her North Texas pasture. Occasionally, she saddles him up. but, as a tribute to Wavne, she does not let anyone ride him. -s, Welcome Back to School Ags! Ms | Moderation enhances enjoyment. Marijuana second largest cash crop in U.S. United Press International WASHINGTON — Americans grew and harvested a record 5d6.6 [billion worth of marijuana in 1984 and the illegal pot was the top cash crop in 10 states, the National Orga- Inimion for the Reform of Mari- Ijuana Laws said Tuesday. NORML, which advocates remov ing criminal penalties for marijuana use, annually estimates the size of the U.S. marijuana crop. “The two most important trends last year are the increase in indoor cultivation of marijuana and the in crease in the number of people growing marijuana for their own personal use,” said Kevin Zeese, ex ecutive director of the group. Zeese estimated that 25 percent of the marijuana grown in the United States is now grown indoors either in greenhouses or under grow-lights and that of the 30 million estimated marijuana consumers, one in 10 now grow their own. NORML said that 1984 also marked the first time more than half of the marijuana used in the United States was domestically produced. Zeese said that NORML’s survey also indicated that marijuana was the second largest cash crop in the United States, f alling behind the $20 billion corn crop- nd Doesn't that beautiful mind of yours deserve a beautiful body?
