This is the usual Charles Bronson action- adventure film with lots of blood as he travels Ur Central America to tight his sadistic rival. R. Win Life: This film was written bv Cameron Crowe, the writer of "Fast Times at Ridgemont High." Supposedly it is quite similar. It even stars Christopher Penn, Sean Penn's younger brother. The story follows five teenagers as they get out of school and face the "pro mised land."R. Tightrope: In a big departure, Clint Eastwood gives an emotional performance in this action thriller. A sadistic killer is raping and mur dering prostitutes in New Orleans and Eastwood is assigned the case. It turns out that he and the killer ac tually have quite a bit in common, especially when it comes to sexual activities and preferences. The film does a fine job of highlighting the fight between good and evil in all of Post Oak 764-0616 Ghostbusters: Bill Murray gives the performance of a lifetime in this fast-paced and excellent comedy. The simple plot revolves around he, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis setting up a business in New York Citv to catch paranormal spir its. When the ghosts threaten to take over New York and then the world, the Ghostbusters come to the rescue, with Murray mugging all the wav. PG. IVIuppets Take Manhatten: Kermit and Miss Piggy are back once again as they travel to the Big Apple. Manor East 823-8300 An Of Me: Lily Tomlin plays a rich, eccentric invalid who hires a swami to transfer her soul into a voung, gorgeous girl. But when the ritual is performed, her soul acci dentally ends up inside her lawyer, plaved by Steve Martin. The film has some great moments and Steve Martin is back to form. For more in formation see inside review on page 3.PG. Dreamscape: This is an exciting and suspenseful film with an 'A' movie cast, but a nearly 'B' movie script. All that means is that the film is highly entertaining, but you have to suspend the notion of rea lism every once in a while. Dennis Quaid and Kate Capshaw star. The film centers on Quaid's ability to go inside someone's dreams and change what happens. Pulling out the old wife's tale of "when you die in vour dream, you die in real life," the plot calls for Quaid to save the President of the United States, who is being threatened in his dreams. PG-13. Irreconcilable Differences: Drew Barrymore ("E.T.") stars as a young girl who decides her parents are not working out and sues them for divorce. The parents are played by Ryan O'Neal and Shelley Long ("Cheers"), who are both rich and famous and cannot get along like they used to. Looks like it should be a winner. PG. Schulman Six 775-2468 The Bear: Gary Busey stars as the all-time winningest football coach, Paul 'Bear' Bryant. The film follows Brvant from age 17, when he wres tles a bear to earn his nickname, to his greatest years at Alabama. A section of the film takes place at Texas A&M and was filmed at The Grove, Bonfire and a football game last year. For more information see inside articles. PG. Purple Rain: Prince proves he is as fantastic on celluloid as he is on vinvl. The film centers on a young rocker, The Kid, who is trying to break into stardom, but has some major personal problems. Said to be autobiographical, the film is sim plistic, but effective. Morris Dav and Jerome of the Time nearly steal the show with a pair of great come dic performances. Aside from them and Prince though, the rest should not try acting as a permanent pro fession. The music is excellent and the concert performances are even better. R. Entre Nous: This French film was written and directed Diane Krury and stars Isabelle Huppert, Miou-Miou and Dan Marchand. The story takes a look at the relationship between two women. PG. Ivevenge of the Nerds: This film is so bad that it is great. The makers have taken what is actually a one- joke premise and milked it for all it is worth. You can't help but laugh, even though you know it is taste less. Hilarious performances are given by Robert Carridine and An thony Edwards as the head nerds — you've got to love 'em. If you need a good laugh with no heavy brain work, give this one a trv. R. The River Rat: Tommy Lee Jones has just gotten out of prison and finds that he has a 13-year-old daughter to contend with. The plot revolves around stolen money, Jones method of getting out of prison and the growing relationship between father and daughter. PG. W oman In Red: Excellent adult comedv with Gene Wilder, Charles Grodin, Joseph Bologna and Kelly LeBrock as the most beautiful woman in the world (perfect cast ing with LeBrock). Wilder is a hap pily married and very innocent ad vertising executive who falls madly in lust with LeBrock. The film shows just how far he will go to get her in bed and it also examines the notion that everyone is cheating in their relationships at least a little. Gilda Radner is great as the woman scorned. PG-13.
