The two talents come together to make one of the funniest com edies out this summer. For good entertainment come see this one. Rated R. Octopussy: The most in teresting thing about this James Bond flick is the title. This particular story follows the James Bond formula and Jaws 3-D gets bitten, rated 2 out of 5 stars by Patrick A. Zinn Battalion Staff This summer has been one for sequels. We, the movie goers, have had the likes of such films as Psycho II, Por ky’s II, and a few of the films have achieved such success that they are now on their third time around. One such movie is ws 3-D. The pretense of this Jaws film is much the same as the other two previous films. This time the shark has broken into a Sea World park and is ter rorizing the workers and pat rons on opening day. As the movie begins we learn that the Brody boys have left South Hampton and are in Florida. But lo and behold the shark didn’t stay in New England, it capie along for the move and brought a baby too. One aspect of the movie which is drastically different than the other two is that this one is shown in 3-D. The effect is good in this film. It helps add to the suspense of not only trying to guess what is going to happen but also whether or not what happens is going to pop out at you. Unfortunately, however, this movie falls into some typical pitfalls of all 3-D movies. Many scenes could have been deleted from the movie. They were put only in so the 3-D effect could be de monstrated. For example, when the spear gun aimed at the shark is shot it comes straight for you. It was times like these in the film that re minded the viewer that he was watching a movie and the con centration was broken. A word goes out to the con sumer. Be careful with your glasses, if the lenses are touched the glasses will no longer polarize the images Movie Review and the theater manager did not seem at all too receptive to the idea that he may have to give out another pair. In praise ol the movie I must say that many fresh ideas were used in its making. It is able to stand on its own merit. The water park was an in teresting setting to choose. This movie was much more tasteful and subtle than its predecessors, and for that I say it comes close to being the best of the three (nothing real ly could equal the intensity of the first movie, but this comes close). Also in praise of movie I must say that it relied on sus pense, not gore, to scare us. The acting in this movie may not be Academy award winning, but all of the stars did a good job of creating in teresting characters that moved the movie along. Bess Armstrong’s delightful and interesting character was par ticularly strong. Against the movie I must say that it did not need to be in 3-D. The glasses and the fact that the movie tried to gear for a 3-D effect seem to bog it down and make the action cumbersome when it was not justified. The Brody children as the human protagonists in this film is just a bit too coin cidental. The movie was in teresting in that it was a subtle effort, but it still was hokey. Another unbelievable part of the movie is that the dolphins ending up saving everyone. Dolphins may be intelligent and man’s friend but give us a break! Overall I will not say that the movie was bad, but neither can I say that it was good. I did not enjoy the movie as enter tainment or as a chance to mindlessly spend my after noon. If you want serious en tertainment then this movie is not for you, but if you want a simple non-entertaining (well almost mildly entertaining) movie, then this movie is for you. I give this movie a two star rating out of five possible stars, unless you are under twelve or have never seen a movie before — then I give this movie an additional half star. has nothing new and exciting to offer. If you have ever seen a James Bond movie before, then you might as well say you also have seen this one. Rated R. Stroker Ace: Burt Reynolds and Loni Anderson star in this excuse to “act” together. Reynolds is a race car driver and Anderson is the girl after his heart. Rated R. Superman III: The latest of the Superman pictures. Richard Pryor is the comic vil lain who almost destroys Su perman in this superdud. Rated PG. with Ihis uly 31st, Each Bilf EDUCAf nutm'Ts “ , on irchie Bunker. It’s a theory, anyway, and it fight have some merit, i One actress who goes along rith the premise is Leigh aylor-Young, an exceedingly lligent and beautiful woman iho is starring in a new night ie soap opera herself. She is the principal star of “The Hamptons,” as in South Hampton and East Hampton, the ultra-snooty, established old wealthy enclaves of Long Island where the Kennedys would be considered nouveau if they were considered at all. As a wife and mother of two, Leigh plays a woman who is at least as loaded as the coarse Ew ing family of “Dallas” or the out re Carrington clan of “Dynasty.” Socially she is light years their superior. Leigh is bright enough to know that the trials and tribula tions of the big rich are magni fied out of all proportion to keep brown bag viewers glued to their sets. She also knows that stories ab out great wealth fulfill viewers’ needs in times of personal eco nomic crises. “In the ‘80s, people are in terested in human behavior, especially of the very rich, and by their responses the viewers are able to define who they are,” she said. “I don’t believe today’s audi ences want to escape into the fantasies of the rich like they did in the 1930s. But they are fascin ated by the fact that even the enormously wealthy have hu man problems like everyone else,” she said. She did not speculate on the postulate that money at least gives a person the opportunity to select his own brand of un happiness. Leigh is happy enough, and while nowhere near as well- heeled as the denizens of the Hamptons, she is the wife of Columbia Pictures president Guy MacElwaine and not about to stand in bread lines. She survived a marriage to actor ^yan O’Neal and is the mother of his son, Patrick, 16. Asked to compare “The Hamptons” with “Dallas,” “Dynasty” and “Falcon Crest” — all big Nielsen rating winners — Leigh smiled brightly and said, “We’re very different.
