local Battalion/Page 5 March 1, 1983 aduate Student Council plans reorganization A,ad by Craig Harris Battalion Reporter Texas A&m Graduate nt Council is reorganizing sure better representation uate students, he reorganization will in- Tnore members on the council and will give more speci fic jobs and titles to its members. Currently, the reorganiza tion is in the planning stage. It will be put into effect after the March 29 student elections. The first meeting with the new mem bers will be April 20. The council promotes social and academic activities for gra duate students and attempts to help them deal with their prob lems. Graduate students are represented by council mem bers from each field of study. Currently, only 10 of 35 council seats are filled, Council president Ken Fredeen said. One reason the council seats are unfilled is because potential members are not pleased with attendance requirements, Fre deen said. The reorganization should help that problem. Another reason for the lack of council members, Fredeen said, is because members have res igned and have not been re placed. He said he hopes the council seats will be filled during the stu dent elections at the end of March. Part of the reorganization will include acquiring new programs for the council, which repre sents more than 5,500 graduate students. The council also hopes to bring graduate students more recognition on campus. “The campus revolves around the undergraduate stu dents and I think this causes some problems with graduate students,” Fredeen said. One program planned by the council is to have a special guest at each council meeting. 3r. Join ? cotuts mpusai > see kis jar.
