local Battalion/Page 4 March 1,1 1 Signs limited for campaigns by Larry Couvillon Battalion Reporter In March, the Texas A&M campus won’t be cluttered with campaign signs from every can didate, a Student Government election official says. Les C. Asel, election commis sioner, said Thursday that can didates with a campaign budget will be permitted to display signs in designated areas. Those offices are student body presi dent, legislative vice presidents, yell leaders, resident hall advis ers, off-campus Aggie president and class presidents. All other candidates will only be allowed to display flyers, Asel said. He said there has been a problem in the past with signs cluttering the campus. Candi dates without a budget have used material less expensive than wood to build their signs. The wind blows away most of the cheaper signs and makes a mess, he said. The filing period for in terested candidates is from 9 a.m. Mar. 7 to 7 p.m. Mar. 11. Filing tables will be set up in the main- hall of the Memorial Stu dent Center. All candidates are scheduled to meet Mar. 20 in 701 Rudder to discuss campaign rules, Asel said. Campaigning will officially begin at 10 p.m. after the meeting. On Mar. 23, an election rally will be held at Rudder fountain. Tables will be set up so candi dates can speak with students who may have questions con cerning the campaigns. A debate between the pres idential candidates will be Mar.4 in 701 Rudder, Asel said. Student elections will be Mar 29 and 30. Voting stations will be set up at: the Academic and Agency Building, Zachry En gineering Center, Sterling C. Evans Library, Academic Build ing, Kleberg Animal and Food Science Center, Memorial Stu dent Center, Sbisa Dining Hall. Stations will also be placed at the corner of Nagle and Lub bock streets in front of Helden- fels Hall and the shuttle bus stop on the corner of Throckmorton Street and Joe Routt Blvd. Chem students given awards Dillard's invites you to meet 1983Miss Texas U.S.A., Lisa Allred, after a fashion show featuring her Tuesday, March 1 at 7:00p.m. Dillard's Post Oak Mai! ♦Dillard’s Two groups of Texas A&M chemistry students were recog nized for outstanding research papers Friday at the Second Annual TAMU Undergraduate Chemical Research Conference and High School Conference on Chemistry.
