local Battalion/Page 5 February 25,11 Four MSC movies sponsored by Ford by Dayna Boren Battalion Reporter MSC Aggie Cinema received the rights to four major motion pictures to be shown this semes ter at no cost as part of a promo tional deal sponsored by Ford Motor Co. The movies donated are “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “48 Hours,” “Star Trek 11” and" Air plane II.” Ford representatives made an agreement with the MSC committee in December to Fi nance the films in exchange for advertising time. The deal also included provisions for a loca tion on campus to exhibit Ford’s new line of cars and trucks. As part of the advertising ex change, Ford is given 60 seconds of advertising time at the begin ning of the films and 30 seconds at the end. Ford also plans to use the Grove later this semester to show their automobiles. During the exhibition, special rates for new Ford automobiles will be provided for graduating seniors. This was the first year Ford contacted college campuses ab out the proposal. When it re ceived some positive feedback, public relations officials con tacted Filmsl Inc., an indepen dent distributor of films. It was the guys who drink Lite Beer from Miller because it tastes great, against the guys who drink it because it’s less filling. And once again, the All-Stars proved they’re in a league by themselves. After a lot of pins (and quite a few Lite Beers) went down and ^ the smoke finally cleared, the score was tied, with only one man left to go. Rodney Dangerfield. All he neededto win itwasone pin. Universities were chosen by student population and parti cipation in student cinema prog rams. MSC Aggie Cinema advisor David Mucci said he was delight ed to be offered such a rare opportunity to receive the rights to major pictures at no cost. “We have a fine student cine ma organization here, and I’m sure that this was taken into con sideration when choosing the sites for the promotional cam paigns,” Mucci said. “Raiders of the Lost Ark” was shown Friday and Saturday. Attendance was the highest for any movie shown at the Univer sity this school year. The entire package deal will net approximately S5,000 for Aggie Cinema. CS council OK by Robert McGlohon Battalion Staff The College Station City Council, in its regular meeting Thursday night, proposed and approved a compromise to a rezoning request for a tract of land at the corner of Welch and Highway 2818, across from A&:M Consoli dated High School. W.D. Fitch, the owner of the land, asked the council to change the zoning of the eight-acre tract from low- density residential to C-1 com mercial, which would allow the land to be used for a wide variety of purposes. Fitch said he would like to build on the lot a convenience store with gasoline pumps, a car wash and a center for small businesses, such as washeterias, barber shops, in surance offices and other small shops. Residents of the area voiced objections to change, primarily for sa reasons. They said the venience store would be ionized before, during after school by high sc students, and it would be gerous for them to cross highway to d<S so. Fitch said, however,tl wouldn’t pose a safety lem for because they noul be crossing the high™ great numbers to go to store, and they can takei of themselves.
