The 25-member all-male group, which has applied for $1,045 in operating expenses, has no written charter, but its goal is to “promote equality by ending reverse discrimination,” said association president Janies T. Robison. SMU, where minorities com prise 4 percent of the student body, has no minority recruit ment program, but one is under way. The university does not award scholarships on the basis of race. Robison, 21, an engineering major, said his first objective is to abolish a policy that allows four groups of minority students — Mexican-Americans, blacks, foreigners and women to elect their own senators. “Minorities on this campus are over-represented,” Robison said. “Why should Mexican- Americans have more voting power than white males?” Robison cited women’s golf as an example of special treatment for women, since the school has no men’s golf team. SMU president L. Donald Shields, who is empowered to deny university approval to any student organization, said Tues day he opposes the goals of the new group, but is reluctant to reverse a decision made by the student senate. Clarence Glover, SMU’s dire ctor of black student services, said the new group is an affront to minorities and efforts to im prove race relations on campus.
