However, the state’s median family income of $19,372, was below the national median of $19,908. And Texas’ median per capita income level of $6,725 was below the national median of $7,313. Alaska ranked first among the states with a median family income of $28,266. In the ranking of cities, Hous ton was 10th in median family income and third in median per capita income among the 38 metropolitan areas with popula tions of 1 million or more. Dal- las-Fort Worth ranked 19th and 12th in the two respective cate gories.
