Pope plans visits to Spain, Poland United Press International BANGKOK, Thailand — The most senior member of the Reagan administration ever to visit Vietnam will travel to Hanoi on Tuesday to seek information on 2,400 Americans still missing in action in Indochina. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Richard C. Armitage will head the five-man U.S. de legation in discussions on the MIA issue. Vietnam, from which U.S. forces withdrew in 1973, insists it is holding no U.S. servicemen or remains of American sol diers. Pentagon officials say they have no reason to believe Amer icans are being held in commun ist-ruled Indochina, although 160 of the missing are known to have been captured alive by Vietnamese or Laotian forces. State Department sources said Tuesday’s visit is the result of stiff pressure on President Reagan by the League of Fami lies, an organization of relatives of the missing American ser vicemen. Discussions between U.S. offi cials and Vietnamese diplomats at the United Nations initiated the visit. Washington and Hanoi have no diplomatic ties and their hos tility nas deepened since the Un ited States tried to impose eco nomic and political sanctions against Hanoi for its 1978 occu pation of Cambodia. “different spokes* different folksl 403 University | Open 10-7 Mon.-Fri.il 844-BIKE United Press International CASTEL GANDOLFO, Italy — Pope John Paul II, just back from his strenuous tour of West Africa, announced plans to visit Spain in October. “The beginnings of the church in Spain, as those of Rome, go back to the time of the apostles,” said the pope, who re turned Friday from his first trip since he was shot in an assassina tion attempt last May.
