Sechelski Battalion Staff I he Texas A&M women’s t>olf team shot 639 to place sixth in a Held of' ten teams in the 1 louston Baptist University Women’s Intercollegiate golf tournament. The 36-hole tournament was played Thursday and Friday at the Champions Golf Club in Houston. Jackie Bertran and Patricia Gonzalez led the Aggies with tot als of 158 to tie for fifteenth place in the tournament. The other A&M golfers in the tournament were Shirley Fur- long, Monica Welsh, and Kerry Bower. “We just didn’t play well,” women’s golf coach Kitty Holley said. Holley also said the com- petiton was tough. “Of the ten teams, nine of them were strong,” she said. “We don’t consider Temple Junior College a strong team, but the other nine made it a pretty tough field.’ Christie Texas Christian University, the University of Texas, South ern Methodist University and Texas A&M were the Southwest Conference schools competing in the tournament. This was the first tournament of the year for the Aggies and Holly said the team wasn’t ready to play. “We haven’t had much play ing time because the weather’s been bad,” she said. “But we hope to get some playing time in to try and get our confidence back.” Holly said although this was a bad tournament for the Aggies, HELP! The Ladies con nected on only 22 of 63 attempts from the floor for 35 percent, and on nine of 18 free throws for 50 percent. Lacrosse team tops SHSU, Rice to go The Texas A&M lacrosse team, under the direction of player- coach Tony Scazzero, defeated Sam Houston State and Rice this weekend in Southwest Conference matches, bringing the Aggies’ overall record to 3-0. Texas A&M has a 2-0 SWC record after its opening conference matches. Against the Bearkats, A1 Adler scored six goals and had two assists to lead the Aggies to a 12-4 victory. Scoring one goal apiece for the Aggies were Bruce Jennings, Carl Hays, Mike Newton, Rick Bearden, Rick Cody and David Hodde. Texas A&M defeated Rice 21-11 as Bearden and Hays scored four goals and Adler scored three. Adding to the Aggies’ total were Newton, Jennings and Tom Cirilla with two goals, and Cody, Hodde, Bob Moss and Tony Kimmer with one goal apiece. For the weekend, Adler led all scorers with nine goals, while Bearden and Hays finished with five goals apiece. The Aggies will play the University of Houston Saturday at 11 a.m. on the main drill Field in a conference match. The Bay Area Lacrosse Club visits the Aggies for a non-conference match Sun day at 11 a.m. The Roadrunners, mean while, outshot Texas A&M, sinking 38 percent of their Field goal attempts and 57 percent of their free throws. Cindy Pavell was the leading scorer for UTSA with 15 points, trailed by Kim Maxwell with 12 and Margaret Martinovich with 10. Pavell put in 11 of her points in the first half as UTSA estab lished a 30-20 halftime lead. Sul livan, who had her second-best offensive game of the season, had scored 14 in the First half, but a basket apiece from three teammates was the only other offensive output the Ladies could manage in the first period. “We played poorly in the first half,” coach Cherri Rapp said. “We didn’t shoot well the whole game.
