Page 4 THE BATTALION FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 1981 Local CS barbecue pavilion to be completed soon By ERICA KRENNERICH Battalion Reporter A 3,000-square-foot open-air barbecue pavilion in College Sta tion Central Park should be com plete by Christmas, the park plan ner says. The pavilion will have kitchen facilities — stoves, sinks, coun ters, serving windows — and a 10- by-4 barbecue pit with several doors. Park Planner Carlos Men dez said. The shelter area will have two large restrooms with lounges. The facility, designed by Don Hill, was planned to capture the rustic farm-like atmosphere of the park by using lap and gap cedar with a tin roof, Mendez said. Construction on the facility be gan in October, he said, and since the building’s design is simple, the work can be finished in two months. “We saw there was a definite need for something like this,” Mendez said. “We have some shelter areas now, but they don’t have this large of a facility and can’t accommodate large groups. MSC AGGIE CINEMA presents The $88,000 pavilion, which will accommodate 200 people, is funded by taxpayers’ money budgeted to the College Station Parks and Recreation Department for use in specific city zones. The program, which is being sponsored by the International Students Association, will be in 301 Rudder Tower and admission is free. A reception will precede the speech. The speech will concern such Latin American situations as hu man rights violations and disrup tion in the various governments. Texas A&M students will rep resent their various countries, in cluding Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, United States, Vene zuela and Belize, in response to Melville’s speech. Melville has a master’s degree in Latin American studies and a doctorate in anthropology from the American University in Washington.
