Longhorn recruits overcharge United Press International AUSTIN — Seven basketball players being recruited by the University of Texas ran up $1,267.40 in charges for clothing and souveniers at the hotel where they stayed during a visit to the campus. Texas officials said the Marriott’ Hotel billed the school only for the recruits’ rooms and room tax, and sent the bills for sportswear, cow boy hats and souveniers to the re cruits. “I’m kind of shocked by all of this,” said Barry Dowd, assistant basketball coach. Dowd said the hotel has asked the univerity’s help in collecting from the re cruits, and one of the recruits — Michael Kennedy of Kingston College in Jamaica — already has paid back the extra charges he ran up during his visit. Robert Hughes Jr. of Fort Worth Dunbar ran up the most charges, $525.80 on four receipts from hotel shops. Hughes already has signed a letter of intent to play for the Longhorns. His father, coach at Dunbar High, said he was “extremely dis gusted” with his son. “I don’t know who he thought he was charging those things, but I do know who’s going to have to pay for it. I also know who is going to pay me back with his first paycheck this summer, or UT is going to be minus a player after I break both of his legs.” THE BATTALION THURSDAY, APRIL 30, 1981 Page 15 TANK MCNAMARA Ml, LANCE SAVAGE MERE WlTM 'GET YOUR LIMIT, 1 THE FIRST OOTPOOI& GOCM IP AT miT> ANT-PUNTING NUTS WHERE TO GET OFF by Jeff Millar & Bill Hinds 7 RIGHT AFTER THIGWORP FROM THE GUN RACK, THE SWOOTER'G ‘STORE, WE'LL BE BACK WUP HOW TO GUT A RHINO.
