Tire suit was filed earlier this week by John Dabney Murchison Jr. against the elder Murchison, his son Clint III, and cousins Burk Yarborough Murchison, Robert Frank Murchison and Coke Ann Mur chison. The lawsuit claims the money from a trust established by his late grandfather, C. W. Murchison, should have been turned over to him in April 1973, when he turned 25. He says he has not been able to assume the assets because the trust has been used as collateral for at least three loans secured by other members of the Murchison family. The suit maintains developer Clint Murchison III was responsible for misuse of the trust, one of four the grandfather set up for his four grandchildren. Fort Worth legislator tries again Willis thinks blue law will be repealed United Press International AUSTIN — A Fort Worth legisla tor, long a crusader to repeal the Texas law that prohibits stores from selling certain items on consecutive Saturdays and Sundays, is optimistic the Legislature will finally agree with him. Rep. Doyle Willis, D-Fort Worth, said his bill repealing Texas’ blue law stands a good chance of pas sing before the current session con cludes on June 1. Willis, a crusty 72-year-old for mer state senator, failed to get his pet bill up before the House last ses sion. In 1979 “we didn’t even get out of the blocks” and the legislation died in a business and industry sub committee. “The chances are good we’re going to pass this bill this time,” he said. “I can pass it if I can get it to the House floor.” Willis said if he were a candidate for governor, he would run on a plat form advocating the repeal of the blue law. “I don’t know what better issue there would be other than the blue law,” he said. Texas’ blue law prohibits stores from selling on consecutive Satur days and Sundays most household and personal items that are not edi ble. Willis said the law is silly and Texans want it repealed. “If you can buy beer on Sunday, why can’t you buy pantyhouse, a hammer or something else you need,” he said. “It’s a little silly.” The Fort Worth legislator said lob by organizations that represent large department stores have usually done their share to defeat legislation re pealing Texas’ blue law. Willis said department stores do not want groc ery stores and other smaller stores competing for the same business on Sundays. “They also argue that it will force people to work on Sunday, but that old dog won’t hunt anymore,” he said. Willis said he and other legislators have sent out questionaires to their constituents and the results indicate that as many as 85 percent of Texans favor repeal of the blue law. “I’ve even seen 12 or 15 newspap ers carry editorials in favor of repeal of the blue law,” he said. “And I haven’t seen any editorials in favor of keeping the blue law.” Willis said his bill, which also would void all lawsuits pending in courts because of the blue law, would alleviate the inconvenience it places on citizens. “The people in my district are all honest, God-fearing people,” he said. “But they are against the blue law. They want to be able to stop at the store and buy something after church on Sunday.” nnocentplea made byDaniel’s widow ;ing wort )om. i-eat piza iter. litorium. irs ith the C he klana s identil 10 mapstot eb. 14 rail maps will d Drag* I ;rs would brook-Ke® United Press International LIBERTY — Vickie Daniel leaded innocent Wednesday to rarderinthe Jan. 19 shooting death fher husband, former Texas House peaker Price Daniel Jr. State District Judge Clarence nread Mrs. Daniel, 33, a murder in Rudder '^* ctmen 4 issued by a Liberty lounty grand jury and asked for her lea. She had filed for divorce twice in |ieir four-year marriage, most re- ently Dec. 31. On Jan. 28, a Liberty County grand jury heard from two dozen wit nesses and debated the case until nearly midnight before endorsing Eckols’ charge with a murder indict ment. Mrs. Daniel, who has not submit ted to questions from investigators, did not appear before the grand jury. Daniel, 39, a lawyer, newspaper publisher, land developer and son of former Texas Gov. Price Daniel Sr., was shot once with a . 22-caliber rifle at the spacious home the couple shared on the Daniel family ranch outside Liberty. The fatal bullet went through his abdomen, ripped his aorta (the body’s main artery), and lodged in his spine. He bled to death. Ambulance attendants responded to a call from Mrs. Daniel about 7:40 p.m. Jan. 19. Witnesses described her as hysterical. She was hospital ized for five days after the shooting for what was called “traumatic shock.” Lannie has suggested Mrs. Daniel acted in self-defense, that she was bruised during a confrontation im mediately before the shooting and that she fired a warning shot through the ceiling before the bullet that kil led Daniel. Eckols, in repeated vehement public statements, has rejected the self-defense argument. Foods. ax. OP.M W CIAL Steak ivy jsand jther ndB# DIETING? « .
