Page 6 THE BATTALION THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 1981 LocaIXState RHA restructure discussion sole topic of meeting tonight By BERNIE FETTE Battalion Staff The proposed restructuring of the Residence Hall Association will be the sole topic of discussion at a spe cial RHA meeting tonight in 209 Harrington at 7:00. At the last meeting, after an hour of discussion, the plan was voted down. “I don’t think they were against it,” RHA President Sherrie Balcar said. “I think they just wanted to study it some more.” The main goal of the new plan, Balcar said, is “to make the commit tees in RHA more effective. We have many new programs coming up this semester and the present structure is not effective at all.” The restructuring would change the number of members on the ex ecutive council from seven to four, dropping the chaplain, public rela tions director and the national com munications coordinator. These three, Balcar said, are appointed positions while the other four are elected. Also, the new plan would establish five departments covering certain areas as opposed to the existing 17 committees. This would provide for more consistency and effectiveness in the workings of the various prog rams, Balcar said. Balcar said the plan would also give general members a better opportunity to get involved. “And I think that’s really important because there’s a lot of young leadership out there,” she said.
