Ag workouts begin today at Kyle Field Texas A&M football coach Tom Wilson said Wednesday he expected 26 freshmen to be on the field today for the opening day of Aggie football workouts. One of the first-year players, Tho mas Graham of Hughes Springs, a linebacker, will not be among the group, Wilson said. Graham has been ill and will undergo medical tests before starting practice. “We ll stress fundamentals and conditioning while teaching the freshmen our offensive and defen sive systems so they’ll be better pre pared when they join the varsity next Monday,” Wilson said. “The freshmen and returning var sity players will train in shorts next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.” Wilson also announced the Aggies had added wide receiver Burnis Simons of Henderson County junior college to the roster. Simons last year led Texas junior colleges in re ceiving as a freshman. DH rule one topic of NL meetings United Press International DEARBORN, Mich. — The Na tional League is expected to take another swing at — and miss — pas sage of the Designated Hitter rule currently in use by the American League. “I really can’t say whether the de signated hitter rule will pass,” said Blake Cullen, spokesman for the Na tional League. “Some clubs are for it, others aren’t. There may be more support now than in the past, I don’t know. ” It was turned down earlier this year, reportedly by a 9-3 margin. Officials indicate there is less than a 50 percent chance of getting the proposal passed. A simple majority is needed to reunite the two leagues on the issue for the first time since the AL adopted the rule nearly a decade ago. “Great Service & Low Rates” For real value on Auto Insurance, call me: BRUCE BOYD 300 University Drive E. 846-3421 STATE FARM MUTUAL Automobile Insurance Company Home Office: Bloomington.
