Box 4084, Bryan, Texas Law Enforcement Schools Weekend Baseball highlights successes By RICHARD OLIVER Sports Editor The weekend in review: Women’s Softball — Texas A&M University knocked off the Universi ty of Texas-Arlington Saturday after noon, 2-1 and 3-1 behind the, as- usual, excellent pitching of aces Lori Stoll and Shan McDonald. The nationally third-ranked Aggies ended their season with a 19- game winning streak and a 37-7 re cord. Stoll, 18-2, pitched a six-hitter in the first game, but it took a run in the bottom of the seventh to win it. McDonald, 16-5, shut down UT-A on four hits in the second game. The Aggies play Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the opening of the TAIAW Softball Championships, to SPECIAL NOTICE Optional Board Plan Summer Students may dine on the board plan during the first session of summer school at Texas A&M University. Each board student may dine three meals each day except Sunday evening if the seven day plan is selected, and three meals each day, Monday through Friday, if the five day plan is preferred. Each meal is served in the Commons. Fees for each session are payable to the Controller of Accounts, Fiscal Office, Coke building. Board fees for each plan are as follows: Plans First Session Seven Day - $ 160.95 June 2 through July 3 Five Day - $145.71 and plus tax July 7 through July 9 Day students. Including graduate students may purchase either of the board plans. be held at Bee Creek Park in College Station through Friday. Women’s Tennis — The women’s tennis team lost a disappointing match to TCU, 8-1, Friday evening at the varsity courts here. Elise Richardson provided the only vic tory for the Aggies, defeating Bar bara Von Demleux. In the No. 1-seed match, Aggie Maylyn Hooton lost to TCU’s Lori Nelson, 6-3, 6-4. In the No. 1 seed doubles, Hooton and Terri Neutze were defeated by Angela Bartzen and Janie Bowen, 6-1, 6-4. In spite of this weekend’s loss, the women’s team has qualified for the state championships, to be held Wednesday in Odessa. Annual Elephant Bowl — Satur day the Army-Navy cadets of Texas A&M competed against the Air Force cadets and the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band. When the smoke cleared, the Navy team had come out on top, 27-19. The game was held to benefit the United Way and the American Heart Association, and the money will be distributed to these organizations next week, with a small amount of money held back to help, the Elephant Bowl continue next year. The Elephant Bowl wishes to be independent from the University, and to perpetuate itself through a small percentage of the input from the game itself. Approximately 750 vocal people watched the nip-and-tuck battle, and over $1100 was collected. The Wings and Sabers Society, which sponsored the game, was a little disappointed in the low turnout. Ray Johnson, president of the club, said he hopes the game will get a better response next year. Aggie hurlers David Flores (3-2), Rick Luecken (9-3), and Robert Slavens (11-0), finished up the regu lar season with 23 of the Aggies 36 victories, and the Aggies have clin ched at least second place in the final SWC standings. Track — The men’s track team overwhelmed the rest of the field at this weekend’s Domino-Sunkist Track Classic in Florida, with Aggie stalwart Tim Scott named the out standing performer. Scott won the discus and the shot-put. Although no team scores were tallied, Texas A&M won six events, more than any other team competing. By Richard Oliver Sports Editor The Texas A&M University men’s tennis team, spurred on by the fine play of Tom Judson and Ron Kowal, their number three doubles team, finished sixth place this weekend in the Southwest Conference tennis championships held at the H.E.B. Tennis Center in Corpus Christi. Judson and Kowal, who finished 13-1 on the season, edged by Jose Lambert and Scott Diehl of Arkansas 4-6, 7-5, 7-6, to win the number three bracket championship. Freshman sensation Brian Joel- son, an instrumental factor behind Texas A&M’s success this year, lost to Chris Doane of TCU in the num ber five bracket singles finals, 7-5, 6-2. Joelson finished the season with a 22-6 singles record. The final standings were: Arfasl 76, Houston 53, SMU 54, TCq Texas 47, Texas A&M 46, Rice!
